If you didn't think medaling at the Olympic Games was a momentous enough part of one's life, why not add an engagement to the mix?
In recent years, and recent editions of both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, several athletes have taken their relationships to the next level with very public proposals (and, thankfully, more engagements than not).
With a brand new one now in the mix, we're recapping some of the most romantic and memorable proposal stories at the Olympics over the years (and watch one of them below)…

Breezy Johnson is walking away with more than the gold she won in the women's downhill in Milan-Cortina, she also got a sapphire engagement ring. After finishing her final race on February 12, her boyfriend Connor Watkins got down on one knee at the finish line, also including a piece of wood etched with lyrics from Taylor Swift's song "The Alchemy," and got a tearful "yes" in response.
At the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, the "City of Love" truly lived up to its name, with a whopping NINE proposals and engagements. Some of those include Italian Paralympian sprinter Alessandro Ossola, American rower Justin Best, American shot putter Payton Otterdahl, Chinese badminton players Huang Yaqiong and Liu Yuchen (pictured here), Argentinian field hockey player Maria Campoy to handball player Pablo Simonet, and French steeplechaser Alice Finot to Spanish triathlete Bruno Martínez Bargiela.
While technically not a proposal, the Paris Summer Olympics featured several appearances from celebrities. In one of them, Lady Gaga was filmed speaking with French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, where she introduces then-boyfriend Michael Polansky as her "fiancé." The moment quickly sent the internet into a tizzy, and the "Die With a Smile" singer soon confirmed that the rumors were in fact true.
At the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Argentinian fencer María Belén Pérez lost the bronze medal match to France's Manon Brunet. However, the loss didn't sting for long, as during a press conference after the match, reporters asked her to turn around to see her longtime coach and partner, Lucas Saucedo, down on one knee, which she then enthusiastically accepted.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Chinese springboard diver He Zi took home the silver medal, but after posing for photos on the podium with the gold and bronze winners, her longtime boyfriend Qin Ka walked up to the podium. Through the audience's loud cheers, he quietly whispered into her ear and got down on one knee, which she accepted through tears.
