Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt will celebrate 18 years of marriage in 2026 after the pair found fame on reality show The Hills in the mid-2000s and went on to become two of the most famous TV villains.
Their romance was branded toxic and fake, and critics never believed their marriage would last – but as they prepare to celebrate 18 years, Heidi says it feels "really liberating" to be able to prove everyone wrong.
"Sometimes things just take time," she tells HELLO! "Time has passed, and it feels really nice to be in this moment right here and right now."
Heidi and Spencer eloped in November 2008; however, the ceremony was not legally binding, as they did not obtain a marriage license, so they later enjoyed an official wedding in California on April 25, 2009, surrounded by their The Hills co-stars.
Heidi was supported by husband Spencer on Wednesday, April 29, at the Billboard Women in Music event, which saw the mom-of-two walk the red carpet and Spencer stand with the photographers to capture his own images and video of his wife.
"He's so supportive, so selfless, so hardworking, he's just amazing," Heidi said of her husband when HELLO! told her of his actions; Spencer did not walk the red carpet, telling HELLO! he wanted the evening to focus on Heidi and her accomplishments.
Heidi will release her third studio album, Masterpiece, in August 2026; her first album, Superficial, came out in 2010, and her second in 2025.
Superficial topped the iTunes music charts globally, including in the US, in January 2025 after Spencer called on fans to stream it as a way to help the family when they lost their home in the Pacific Palisades fire.
The singer describes her new music as "quintessential hard pop – escapism pop, club pop, fun pop," and has been working with a variety of producers and songwriters.
A mom of two sons – eight-year-old Gunner and three-year-old Ryker – Heidi says the boys have heard "some" of her new music, although much of it is "not quite appropriate!"
Her inspirations are coming from Zara Larsson, who is "giving everything," as well as Tate McRae and Lainey Wilson: "I'm very inspired by her and her hard work over the years."
At 39, Heidi has lived a life many can only dream of; she moved to San Francisco at 18 for college, where she met Lauren Conrad before they both transferred to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, California.
There, their lives were documented in the MTV series The Hills along with friends Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port for six years. She dabbled in music and appeared on other reality TV shows before finding a new fanbase after going viral on TikTok.
Spencer is now running for the office of Mayor of Los Angeles in the 2026 election with his platform largely focusing on LAPD funding, infrastructure, and a criticism of the handling of the 2025 wildfires, and so Heidi is aware her life may now change again. But she says it is important for women to "never give up on a dream".
"You are not too old to accomplish a dream, to have a new chapter come in because you never know what God will do in your life. Keep on, follow your heart, follow your dreams, and keep working," she says.
