Martin Clunes turns rare red carpet appearance into date night with wife Philippa Braithwaite
Doc Martin legend Martin Clunes attended the London premiere of Wuthering Heights on Thursday night, and he brought along his TV producer wife, Philippa Braithwaite
The heavens may have opened on Thursday night, but Martin Clunes didn't let it rain on his parade. Joining his co-stars at the London premiere of Wuthering Heights in Leicester Square, the actor, 64, was all smiles as he walked the carpet with his wife, TV producer Philippa Braithwaite. A star-studded affair, the couple, who have been married for 28 years, joined Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, Emerald Fennell and more for photos before heading into the Odeon Luxe for a screening of the film.

Ahead of the premiere, Martin had told This Morning hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard that he would be accompanied by "Lady Clunes" for the evening, with the red carpet marking a huge change of pace for the couple. "We're both a bit like, 'Wooo!' We live a quiet little life down in the country. You know, it's quite a change for us," he said.
Martin portrays Mr Earnshaw, the father of Margot Robbie's Cathy Earnshaw
Scheduled for release on 13 February, 2026, Wuthering Heights – which is loosely inspired by Emily Brontë's Gothic novel – follows the tragic and tumultuous love story of Cathy Earnshaw (Robbie) and Heathcliff (Elordi). Cast as Mr. Earnshaw, Cathy's father, Martin has described his character as "rotten to the core" and a "devout misogynist" with a "gambling addiction".
"I didn't know the book before we started doing the film," the Doc Martin star admitted to This Morning's Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard earlier this week. "I called out to Philippa. I said, 'Oh, Emerald wants me to play – who's Mr Earnshaw?' [She said] Cathy's dad. Oh! That'll be good."
During the London premiere, fans were delighted to see Martin with his wife, Philippa, who typically keeps a low profile. Wrapping up warm, the Wuthering Heights star donned a navy suit, tailored overcoat and a tartan scarf. Meanwhile, Philippa – whose producing credits include Sliding Doors (1998) and Manhunt (2019-2021) – embraced Gothic-chic, stepping out in a striking red velvet dress and a black coat. Shielding his wife's gorgeous ensemble with an umbrella, Martin beamed as he and Philippa stopped for photos.

Once they were inside and safe from the rain, the cast of Wuthering Heights paused for a group photo. At the centre, the film's director Emerald Fennell was flanked on both sides by Amy Morgan, Robert Cawsey, Jessica Knappett, Vy Nguyen, Alison Oliver, Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, Charlotte Mellington, Ewan Mitchell, Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Charli xcx, and of course, Martin.
Martin has clarified that his time on the Wuthering Heights set was far from glamorous
During his interview on This Morning, Martin joked that he had a less glamorous experience on the set of Wuthering Heights, given his character's arc in the movie. "I had the horrible set, didn't I? Yeah – the lovely set, my set," he quipped.
"It was one day that people from Warner Brothers came, the Americans, and they couldn't make eye contact with me. So I was about to start a scene where I started like in a pool of vomit and I had urine stains, and they couldn't make eye contact with me. And then they went and they stood in the vomit."
