Margot Robbie has recalled the time she was effectively told to "eat less" by a male co-star early on in her career. The actress shared that she had been given a diet book by an unnamed male actor, and revealed her brilliant response.
Speaking to singer Charli XCX in a video interview for Complex, the Wuthering Heights star, 35, was asked about the worst gift she had ever received. She said: "Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with, a male actor, gave me a book called Why French Women Don't Get Fat."
The title, which came out in 2007, was written by Mireille Guiliano. According to the synopsis, it promises to tell you "how to enjoy food and stay slim and healthy".
"It was essentially a book telling you to eat less," noted Margot, who has been working hard promoting the new Emily Brontë adaptation, in which she appears alongside Jacob Elordi. She added: "I was like, 'Whoa, [expletive] you, dude'."
Margot has starred in numerous films over the years, including Barbie alongside Ryan Gosling and The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. She also rose to fame on the Australian soap Neighbours, from 2008 to 2011, before hitting Hollywood.
The mother-of-one insisted that it was "really back in the day" and confirmed that it wasn't a famous actor, given that she had "no idea where he would even be now". She added: "He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight. I was like, 'Wow'."
In multiple public appearances ahead of the release date on Friday of Wuthering Heights - which has been directed by Emerald Fennell, who played a young Queen Camilla in The Crown - Margot has wowed with her red carpet wardrobe. She stunned in a 'naked' dress at the London premiere last week.
Margot also turned heads in a red mini-dress at an LA photocall for the film, and looked chic in a feathered Victoria Beckham ensemble at a prior event. She has reunited with the same stylist she worked with on the iconic Barbie press tour in 2024.
It comes just over a year after Margot became a mother for the first time. She welcomed a son with her husband Tom Ackerley, who is an executive producer on the new Wuthering Heights film, which is being produced through his and his wife's company, LuckyChap Entertainment.
The couple met in 2013 when Tom was working as the third assistant director on the set of the film, Suite Française, in which Margot had been cast. After starting to date in 2014, they then married in a ceremony in Australia in 2016.
