The Oscars may be over for another year, but a disastrous fallout between two Hollywood legends appears to be growing following Barbra Streisand's Robert Redford tribute during the prestigious award show.
At the 98th annual Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O'Brien at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the Funny Girl actress, 83, was tasked with paying homage to her late co-star, Robert, who died at 89 last September.
She honoured her The Way We Were co-star with a speech and singing performance during the show's In Memoriam segment, which also remembered Diane Keating, Robert Duvall, and Graham Greene.
However, her moment onstage deeply upset fellow star Jane Fonda, 88, who felt she should have been the one to remember Robert due to acting alongside him four times across the decades.
The dynamic duo starred opposite one another in Tall Story, The Chase, Barefoot In The Park and The Electric Horseman.
Jane's jealous moment
Following the emotional tribute, which brought tears to the eyes of those in the audience, Jane lashed out at the 60s Broadway star, claiming she was not the right person to deliver the speech about the actor's life.
Dressed in a figure-hugging dark brown sequined ballgown, the Klute actress stopped to chat with Entertainment Tonight at the Vanity Fair after-party and animatedly shared her feelings about the evening.
She explained: "I want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford. She only made one movie with him; I made four… I have more to say!'
"I was always in love with him. [He was] the most gorgeous human being and had such great values. He did a lot for movies - he lifted up independent movies."
Robert in the middle
Despite the star's claims, both Barbra and Jane were pictured together with the late actor in 2015 during an event hosted in his honour.
They were both friendly with him and showed up to the Chaplin Award Gala in New York to support the star, who died in his hometown of Sundance Mountain Resort, Utah.
Robert was recognised by the annual fundraiser for his career as an actor, director, producer, and his significant role in highlighting independent cinema, as the founder of the Sundance Film Festival.
On the night, Barbra and Jane posed for pictures on opposite sides of Robert, wrapping their arms around him, and also appeared onstage with the star when he received his award.
Barbra reaches out
While the showbiz icons have never publicly declared to be best friends, they have moved within the same circles for decades, have been pictured plenty of times together, and one side of the duo has even shared her praise for the other on social media.
In October last year, Barbra penned a direct message to Jane on Instagram and posted it to her main grid, praising the star for her "continued activism".
The message was typed against a black background and read: "Dear Jane, we are in deep trouble under Trump's regime. The entertainment community has always had strong and powerful artists standing up for democracy and freedom of speech."
Barbra continued: "Our voices are always stronger together. I'm so proud to be part of our community and this committee in 2025, as sad as this is, to be reliving the 1950s.
"Jane, I appreciate your continued activism and voice in these scary times. With hope for the future, Barbra."
She tagged Jane in her caption, and it does not appear that Jane commented on the post.
LIFE-long colleagues
The pair of actresses came up in Hollywood around the same time and have attended the same events, even appearing in a LIFE magazine photoshoot together in the 1980s, highlighting powerful female actresses.
They appeared on the cover of the May issue together alongside Goldie Hawn, Sally Field, and Jessica Lange, as examples of the top talent of that era.
