Madonna may be dubbed the Queen of Pop, but the global superstar appears to be teasing a return to acting after being spotted on the set of The Studio.
The Vogue singer, 67, was notably absent from her usual star-studded Oscars afterparty appearances on Sunday. Instead, she was seen in Venice, where season two of the hit Apple TV comedy is currently filming.
The Studio took home 13 Emmy awards back in September, and while the sad passing of one of its stars, Catherine O'Hara, shook the cast, the new season is set to be just as brilliant.
While no official announcement has been made regarding her involvement, Madonna was reportedly seen on set alongside Michael Keaton, Donald Glover and Julia Garner, who are all set to appear in the new season. They join returning stars Seth Rogen, Chase Sui Wonders and Kathryn Hahn.
Madonna in Venice
Taking to Instagram, Madonna shared a glimpse of her Italian trip, posting a photo of herself seated in a leather-clad gondola, reading what appeared to be a script.
"The Italian job," she captioned the post. The singer wore a wide-brimmed Louis Vuitton hat and a long black puffer coat, wrapping up against the chill while keeping her outfit largely concealed.
Madonna's last scripted TV role came over two decades ago, when she guest-starred as Liz on Will & Grace in 2003. Since then, she has appeared as a guest on shows including Saturday Night Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Graham Norton Show.
What is The Studio about?
While Madonna's role remains under wraps, the new series is set to continue to follow the anxious Continental Studios exec Matt Remick (Seth Rogan) as he navigates the chaos of the film industry.
The synopsis reads: "As movies struggle to stay alive and relevant, Matt and his core team of infighting executives battle their own insecurities as they wrangle narcissistic artists and craven corporate overlords in the ever-elusive pursuit of making great films."
Who stars in The Studio season 2?
Alongside its expanding guest cast, The Studio stars Seth Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Kathryn Hahn and Bryan Cranston. The show also marked one of the final screen appearances of Catherine O'Hara, who sadly passed away in January.
Following her passing, Seth Rogen paid tribute to his The Studio co-star on Instagram.
"Really don't know what to say…" he penned. "I told O'Hara when I first met her I thought she was the funniest person I'd ever had the pleasure of watching on screen. Replica Luxury Handbag Alone was the movie that made me want to make movies.
"Getting to work with her was a true honour. She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous… she made me want to make our show good enough to be worthy of her presence in it. This is just devastating. We're all lucky we got to live in a world with her in it."
