Carol Kirkwood has been a beloved fixture of the BBC Breakfast team for 28 years, until she bid an emotional farewell to her weather girl days on Wednesday morning.

But what is next for the TV star? While Carol is saying goodbye to the BBC, that doesn't mean she has any plans of slowing down. During her emotional last day in the studio, the 63-year-old's upcoming plans were revealed.

Her co-star, Sally Nugent, said she was looking forward to their upcoming holiday together, and Carol commented that she was "looking forward" to spending time with her husband, Steve, who joined her in the studio for her last day.

Carol said: "It's time for a new chapter, a bit more time with Steve," adding: "Perhaps the luxury of watching the weather instead of presenting it. Thank you for letting me be part of your lives."

'Work wifey'

It comes as no surprise that Carol and Sally will be spending some quality time together behind the scenes, as their close bond couldn't be more evident on screen.

Carol even previously coined Sally her "work wifey" and, when it comes to trips, the pair are a match made in heaven.

The TV duo know how to support each other through life's changes. In 2023, following reports that Sally had split with her businessman husband, Gavin Hawthorn, they headed on a staycation.

"I do love a mini break [pink hearts emoji]," Sally remarked alongside one of the pictures, showing a beautiful backdrop of their balcony positioned in front of a river.

An emotional farewell

Upon news of Carol's departure from the BBC, Sally shared an emotional tribute to her friend and colleague.

"Carol has been a part of all our lives on @bbcbreakfast for more than two decades. And this morning she has announced she will be leaving us in April," Sally wrote on Instagram.
