Shiloh Jolie refuses to be labeled a nepo baby. The 19-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made a quiet entrance into the entertainment world that her parents dominate.
After the K-pop singer Dayoung's label, Starship Entertainment, held open auditions to find performers for her music video, "What's a Girl to Do," Shiloh went through the rounds like everyone else.
And Shiloh, who auditioned as part of a dance crew called Culture, made it to the final cut based purely on her talent. Even as she entered the final round, the production team had no idea she was the daughter of Angelina and Brad. It remained that way until well after filming wrapped.
How did Shiloh Jolie keep her identity private?
The 19-year-old auditioned and appeared in the video under the name "Shi," a nickname she's used for other performances. Shiloh is credited as such in the "What's a Girl to Do" video. This was not the first time Shiloh had gone by a different name.
In July 2024, on her 18th birthday, Shiloh filed to drop Pitt from her name. While it was reported that Angelina's daughter took out an ad in the Los Angeles Times to do so, her attorney, Peter Levine, argued she didn't.
"Shiloh did not take out an 'ad’ announcing any name change, and any press reporting that is inaccurate," Peter told Page Six. He went on: "As Shiloh's attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because the law in California requires that of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as is required."
Since then, Shiloh officially goes by Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. Her decision to audition and be credited as "Shi" takes that anonymity one step further. Shiloh's insistence on privacy is not new.
In 2024, Angelina opened up about her daughter during an appearance on Good Morning America, saying: "None of my children want to be in front of the camera [at] this time. They're quite private. Shiloh's extremely private."
She continued: "They weren't born with privacy, right? So, I hope that they can have that as they grow old."
What was Shiloh like on set?
A behind-the-scenes clip shared by Dayoung, 26, on April 9, which showed a lot of the making of the video, captured Shiloh's fun personality while enjoying some downtime with the others in the dance crew.
And members from the set claimed that Shiloh enjoyed dancing but didn't seek any special attention or fame. In the "What's a Girl to Do" video, Shiloh was featured prominently in nearly every scene and moved with the kind of confidence that only comes from genuine passion and practice.
The Dayoung music video started off with a group chanting: "What's a girl got to do?" and laughing together while eating candy, with Shiloh dancing here and there throughout the clip with the other dancers in the crew.
Other moments from the clip featured Dayoung walking fans through the filming, including the shoot going late into the night before sunrise at 5 AM and a cameo from fellow K-pop star (and The Traitors breakout) Eric Nam.
