Dan Snow is one of Britain's most beloved history presenters, with shows examining the ancient Egyptians all the way up to the war heroes of World War II.
However, the star comes from a very rich dynasty with grandparents who fought in the World Wars, while his father was another famous presenter and he's even cousins with Channel 4 star Jon Snow. On top of this, Dan is the great-great grandson of former British Prime Minister David Lloyd George.
These aren't Dan's only famous links, as following his marriage to Lady Edwina Grosvenor, a criminologist and philanthropist, the 47-year-old is also related to the incredibly wealthy Duke of Westminster, who has a net worth of nearly £10 billion and is the godfather of Prince William's eldest son, Prince George.
Dan doesn't often speak about his royally linked relatives but following the death of the Duke's father in 2017, he commented: "They're a lovely, close family, really close. The four of them are a team. It's extraordinary."
Here's all you need to know about Dan's extraordinary lineage…
Dan Snow's wife
Dan has been married to Lady Edwina Grosvenor since 2010, with the pair eloping and avoiding the spectacle of a large public wedding.
"Neither of us has ever wanted a big white wedding," the couple said, in an interview with The Daily Mail. "We are delighted we have been free to plan a simple and relaxed wedding exactly as we wished, with our families around us."
The couple chose to have a low-key ceremony at Bishop's Lodge in Woolton, Liverpool, attended only by family members. The pair have since welcomed three children.
Lady Edwina is a philanthropist and advocate for prison reform. In 2009, she founded The Clink, a restaurant operated inside prisons that aims to give inmates a second chance with new skills in a bid to reduce reoffending rates.
Dan's parents
The presenter is descended from journalism royalty, being the son of Peter Snow and Ann MacMillan. Peter worked in political news, presenting election coverage and analysis between 1969 and 2005, and he was one of the inaugural presenters on the BBC's flagship programme Newsnight.
Peter has worked with his son on numerous occasions, with the pair presenting documentaries on various wars, hosting eight-part series, Battlefield Britain, which charted battles on British soil from Queen Boudicca up until the Battle of Britain in 1940.
Peter's second wife, Ann MacMillan, is also a titan in the world of journalism, having worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Company since 1981. She is currently the channel's London bureau's managing editor.
Speaking about his father in an interview with The Guardian in 2010, Dan shared: "Dad never made any allowances for anyone. From the age of four he was asking me, 'Who do you think should win the next general election?', just because I happened to be the only person in the room. He always wanted his kids to take part in his life, and share his passions, from a young age."
Other famous relatives
Dan has quite a heritage, with his great-great-grandfather on his mother's side being David Lloyd George. David served as the Liberal Prime Minister of the United Kingdom between 1916 and 1922, with his major legacies being his role in the Paris Peace conference following the end of World War I and the establishment of the Irish Free State.
Dan's great-grandfather, Thomas Snow, served on the frontlines in World War I, known for the Attack on the Gommecourt Salient, which coincided with the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Meanwhile, great-uncle George Snow was a schoolmaster and the fifth Bishop of Whitby.
However, one of Dan's most famous relatives is his cousin, Jon Snow. The broadcasting legend served as a presenter on Channel 4 News, serving the station between 1989 to 2021, with his final show airing on 23 December 2021.
