When Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton sadly passed away in October 2025 aged 79, the world mourned an iconic and much-loved star, famous for her roles in films like Annie Hall, The Godfather and The First Wives Club.

Now fans will gain a unique insight into Diane's private life at a live auction of items from her home as Bonhams New York presents Diane Keaton: The Architecture of an Icon on 8 June.

"This sale offers people the opportunity to see the woman behind the actress," says Anna Hicks, Bonhams Head of Private & Iconic Collections, US, in this exclusive interview with HELLO!.

"It invites us into her world of design, art, and fashion, and reveals how thoughtfully and intentionally she lived. Everything had a purpose and a place. There’s a restraint and clarity to her aesthetic that ultimately made her a true icon."

The auction, which is in partnership with The Fine Art Group and  spans four sales across New York and Los Angeles, features a selection of Diane's art and photography collections, interiors, fashion (including pieces from Ralph Lauren and Thom Browne) and personal objects.

Here, Bonhams' Anna Hicks tells us more about the sale…

Anna, what is the response to the auction so far?

"The response has been overwhelming. Diane Keaton is such an icon, and I think people see a little bit of her reflected in their own lives, whether through style, design, artistry, or the characters she brought to life on screen.

"There’s real excitement around the opportunity to celebrate Diane Keaton and engage with her world in such a personal way."

How many pieces from Diane's collection are up for sale?

"[There are] 787 lots of fashion, design, memorabilia, fine art, Diane’s art and photography."

Diane's famous bowler hats and the original untitled script for Annie Hall (1977) feature - tell us more

"The bowler hats are truly iconic. We have examples from both her earlier years and more recent decades, and they perfectly capture the signature style that became synonymous with Diane Keaton. Seeing Diane without a hat was almost a rarity, so these pieces feel quintessentially 'Diane'.

"The original untitled Annie Hall script is equally significant. Annie Hall earned Diane her Academy Award and marked a defining moment in her career.

"The script represents the beginning of an era that shaped both her artistic identity and cultural influence, highlighting the intention and authenticity she brought to every stage of her career."

Diane's own art is up for auction. Tell us about her artistic style - did she ever sell her work?

"To the best of my knowledge, Diane never commercially sold her artwork. She did exhibit occasionally in earlier years, particularly her photography, but her creative practice always seemed personal, used as a way of exploring and organising the world around her.

"Her work is graphic, bold, and highly exploratory. There’s a real sense of curiosity and intentionality throughout it. Above all, she was deeply interested in the act of creation and observation."

Which item do you think will have the most interest?

"I think Diane’s own collages and photography will generate tremendous interest.

"It’s been fascinating to explore her perspective as both an observer and a creator. The collages from the 1970s and early 1980s are especially powerful and poignant, while the large collage wall from her home offers an intimate portrait of her life, interests, and creative mind.

"These works give both collectors and fans a deeper understanding of who Diane was behind the camera, which makes them especially compelling."
