Christian Louboutin’s signature red-soles usually set you back several hundred pounds. But Zara could soon be responsible for bringing them to a store near you – at less than half the price. A French court has ruled in favour of the high street giant over the right to sell the scarlet-soled shoes.
The case began back in 2008 when Louboutin sued Zara France for selling a peep-toed shoe (pictured left) similar to one of their styles (pictured right). Zara filed an appeal on the grounds that there was no proven risk of confusion between the two, and the court agreed, ordering Louboutin to pay approximately £2,000 as compensation. Alexis Mourot, general manager of Christian Louboutin, said the footwear company would continue to defend its sartorial signature. Shoe maestro Christian once revealed that he decided to give his shoes crimson soles after seeing his assistant painting her nails red in 1992.
