It's exactly one week until the Met Gala 2026. The iconic fashion event always falls on the first Monday in May, and we wait with bated breath to see what the world's most influential celebrities will be wearing.
Widely regarded as the 'Oscars of fashion', the Met Gala sees famous names flock to New York's famous Metropolitan Museum of Art to showcase their illustrious outfits, which often follow a dramatic theme. This year's assignment is 'Costume Art' and generally, when it comes to the dress code, the more opulent and outlandish, the better.
It's often a surprise as to who will attend, but it's great fun to reminisce on previous offerings from years gone by, and one of my personal favourites is the UK's very own Victoria Beckham.
The fashion mogul has graced the famous steps five times, but one of her most memorable looks was back in 2008. That year, the theme was Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, and it's safe to say that VB didn't quite follow the memo, shunning avant-garde designs for something more ladylike.
Instead of following suit, the former Spice Girl opted for a dramatic white lace dress by Giorgio Armani with a structured high Victorian collar. The dress was form-fitting and floor-length, with long sleeves.
The style itself was daring in cut, though; it was delicately see-through, with strategically-placed bursts of lace artfully positioned to cover her modesty - nodding to the 'naked dress' red carpet trend that was reinstated in 2025. It featured a thigh-high split, and she topped the look off with metallic shoes by Jimmy Choo.
Victoria's iconic style has evolved to a more tailored ethos since then. The last time she attended the Met Gala was in 2014, and her look was far more in keeping with her style today.
The mother-of-four stayed true to her own design style that year, sporting a classic and minimalist silhouette from her own eponymous label. Her white dress was floor-length and form-fitting, lacking in elaborate embellishments or dramatic features. She accessorised the simple style with sparkling Jacob & Co jewellery.
Victoria's 2024 Met Gala 'moment'
Although the CEO of Victoria Beckham Beauty may not have been present at the 2024 Met Gala in person, her presence was palpable as Bridgerton muse Phoebe Dynevor graced the spotlight wearing one of her designs.
The occasion marked a milestone moment for the former Spice Girl, whose creations had yet to be worn to the prolific event by anyone but herself.
British actress Phoebe, who was dressed by Victoria, told Vogue that "ten-year-old me could never have seen this coming." The dress was an ethereal vision, which featured archival lace and an abundance of tulle.
