The Princess of Wales wowed onlookers on Thursday afternoon, when she was pictured at Castle Hill Academy in New Addington, Croydon, to mark Children's Mental Health Week 2026, which is from 9 to 15 February. The mother-of-three showcased a preppy outfit in muted brown tones.

Showing her allegiance to the great British high street, Kate wore a pair of Boden flat loafers, which she teamed with chocolate-brown, cropped cigarette trousers, and a structured blazer known as the 'Founder' jacket by Petar Petrov. Kate rolled up the sleeves and folded her shirt cuffs over the top, creating a modern, directional look.

Kate switched up her blazer look

"Kate adds an element of friendliness and coolness to a structured blazer," fashion stylist and podcaster Ellis Ranson tells Best Quality Designer Handbag . "She's hitting that sweet spot of being polished yet undone expertly. It's considered yet casual.

The royal's new look signals "off duty" chic

"After the YSL show in January, we have seen a real hype around contrast with suiting, and Kate's choice to wear her shirt sleeve over the blazer shows us visually how to layer items without overcomplication," the host of the Talk In Wardrobe podcast adds. "It also shows a contrast in colour, too, and it signals off-duty chic, which is exactly what Kate does so well," she notes.

The Princess opted to wear cigarette pants

It's also worth noting that the wife of Prince William left her skinny jeans at home, opting to wear cigarette pants, which have fast become the 2026 trouser trend to watch.

The classic staple embodies French fashion, which is universally considered one of the most stylish genres. Cigarette pants are ankle-grazing trousers that are tailored by both name and nature. They received their iconic moniker due to the distinctive shape of the leg, which is akin to a cigarette or cigar. Boasting a slim silhouette, they are usually cut straight from the knee to the ankle.

Cigarette pants are on trend for 2026

"Cigarette pants are having a moment because fashion has officially pivoted away from slouchy, low-effort dressing and back toward something sharper, sexier and more international," fashion stylist Georgie Gray tells Best Quality Designer Handbag . "There's a craving for polish again, the kind of effortless elegance you get when a look is cut close to the body," said the stylist, who has worked with many high-profile names, including Molly-Mae Hague and Rochelle Humes.
