Princess Charlene of Monaco was dripping in gold in Monaco on Monday night - and she had the perfect dramatic hairstyle to go with her statement outfit. The royal arrived for the Michelin Guide award ceremony on 16 March in a head-to-toe metallic ensemble featuring a coordinated gold blazer and trousers and a sparkly sheer shirt underneath that exuded luxury.

Charlene's outfit appeared to be a golden silk suit and a mesh top from Giorgio Armani, as identified by fashion site, New My Royals. The royal slicked her blonde locks back for the night in a defined side part that swooped across her forehead.

Charlene carried a reflective purse and slipped into a pair of pointed-toe heels to finish off her glamorous ensemble as she walked the red carpet with her husband, Prince Albert II of Monaco, who looked dapper for the black tie occasion in a navy suit. Monaco hosted the annual Michelin Guide ceremony, which announces newly awarded restaurants and recognises exemplary culinary talent, for the first time this year.

Charlene's glamorous up-dos

The royal regularly styles her hair up in a neat bun or beehive style for royal outings. Last week, Charlene attended the Provale Solidarité charity gala at the Hotel Georges V in Paris on 13 March with strands of her wavy hair left out of her low bun.

Fashion stylist Leanne Jones spoke to Best Quality Designer Handbag about how the hair choice completed her crystal-encrusted Oscar de la Renta gown on the night, and appeared to be a "quiet homage" to her late mother-in-law, Grace Kelly.

"Once again, she has opted for sleek, understated hair, something she does so well that allows her often maximalist, formal gowns to take centre stage," she says.

"The subtle twist here is the single curl falling on the right side of her face. To me, it feels like a quiet homage to the hairstyles of her late mother-in-law, Grace Kelly. If that was indeed the inspiration, it has been executed beautifully."

While the everyday wardrobe of a royal typically relies on minimalism and tailoring, Charlene is not the only royal to dust off a golden look for a red carpet. The Princess of Wales turned heads in 2021 at the No Time To Die premiere in a plunging gold gown with billowing cape sleeves adorned with metallic embellishments. Kate wore gold for another formal occasion in September 2025, attending the US state dinner at Windsor Castle in a lace Phillipa Lepley gown.

The late Queen Elizabeth II even donned the metallic for a night at the opera in 1963. The royal wore a sparkling gold dress beneath a white fur shawl.
