While the Princess of Wales' modern style is a blend of sophisticated coats and stylish hats, the royal has proved she can nail carefree festival fashion. In case you missed it, it's that time of the year when celebrities and fashionistas head to the Coachella Valley in their best bohemian-chic attire.
Coachella is first and foremost a music festival, but the eclectic fashion generates just as much buzz online each year. The festival has become synonymous with fringe-trimmed bags and boots, layered mixed-metal jewellery, and lots of suede – the exact bold style that Kate has emulated before.
Today, she's known for her polished high-end style, but two decades ago, the royal perfected the festival girl look with several stylish accessories, including a timeless cowboy hat that could easily place her among the concert crowds. Kate arrived for the Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park in 2005 wearing a pair of knee-high boots with a single tassel on the side over a pair of belted skinny jeans.
She threw on a form-fitting suede jacket to match her shoulder bag on the day. But her most festival-appropriate accessory had to be the brown cowboy hat atop her head that had a braided rope detail and feathers on the side.
Kate added a pop of colour to her boho look with a long-sleeved blue top that she wore beneath her jacket. For her jewellery, the royal layered a delicate gold chain necklace with a statement blue heart pendant.
Kate's spin on another festival staple
While she hasn't been spotted at Glastonbury before, that hasn't stopped the royal from putting her own spin on a fashion staple of the festival. Thanks to the likes of supermodel Kate Moss and Alexa Chung, wellington boots have become a trademark look of Glastonbury over the years.
Back in 2016, the Princess of Wales looked festival ready in a pair of stylish boots while out on a hike in Paro Taktsang, Bhutan. The royal paired her riding boots by Penelope Chilvers with a pair of khaki jeans, a cotton white shirt, and a boho style waistcoat.
Royals spotted at festivals
Glastonbury has attracted several members of the Royal Family over the years from Prince Harry to the Duke of Kent's granddaughter. Harry was spotted at the major music festival back in 2013 as he kept a low-key appearance alongside his then-girlfriend Cressida Bonas. His father King Charles has even ventured out to the festival before.
Charles made an unexpected appearance in 2010 for Glastonbury's 40th anniversary as a long-term supporter of Water Aid, looking sharp in a suit. Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, and the Duke of Kent's granddaughter Amelia Windsor have also all attended in past years. Lady Amelia got into the festival spirit in 2022 as she posed inside the festival grounds wearing a scarf top and tracksuit bottoms.
