The Princess of Wales has attended numerous red carpet premieres since marrying Prince William, but in 2009, she made an appearance at the UK premiere of Tenacity Of The Tasman at Odeon Leicester Square wearing a look that was very different to her current royal style.
Kate Middleton, as she was known then, was seen arriving at the event wearing a sky blue bodycon mini dress. It featured three-quarter length sleeves and was paired with black accessories – a cropped blazer, tights, boots, and a scarf.
In tune with the trends of the time, Kate also carried an oversized handbag with short straps in the crook of her arm and added gold drop earrings. Her hair, which nowadays is always styled into pristine curls or in a neat updo, was pulled back into a casual ponytail with strands pulled out around her face.
Kate's style evolution
Two years after the premiere, Kate married Prince William, signalling a shift in her fashion choices. Since then, the princess has attended the BAFTAs several times, as well as the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, for which she pulled out perhaps her most striking red carpet look.
Making an appearance alongside Tom Cruise, the royal put a feminine spin on a classic black tie look with her black and white Roland Mouret gown and her £11,195 Robinson Pelham 'Tsar Star Drop' earrings.
Indeed, in 2009, the royal-to-be found herself in more laid-back attire with a bohemian twist while out in public. Keep scrolling to see our top picks of the year…
