The Princess of Wales made headlines with her controversially cream wedding guest look at the wedding of Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling in the Cotswolds on Saturday.

The future Queen, 44, attended the ceremony at the historic Anglican All Saints Church in Kemble, Gloucester, in a cream tweed Roland Mouret midi dress, complete with a spellbinding matching hat, and stiletto heels

While there's no denying how glamorous Kate looked, some may have been surprised to see her donning a colour so close to bridal white.

However, it isn't the first time the senior royal has chosen a shade within the ivory colour palette for a royal wedding.

Kate's ensemble appeared ivory but was 'primrose yellow'

In 2018, Kate sparked comments from royal watchers when she attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding at Westminster Abbey, which appeared to be white in photographs from the day.

However, the bespoke coat dress Kate wore on the day was actually a "primrose-yellow"  creation by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, despite it appearing to be a more ivory hue.

On the day, Kate paired the ensemble with a yellow floral fascinator, and in some snaps from the historic occasion, including the official portrait, Kate's dress does have more of a lemony shade.

Royal white symbolism

In 2023, Best Quality Designer Handbag sat down with Colour Psychologist and Design Director Tash Bradley to discuss what a power move it is for royal ladies to wear white.

Tash explained: "To wear white, you've got to have a lot of confidence, you know. You're not hiding anything – you want to show purity. If someone wears white, they're being, not minimalist, but it's very clean. It's very pure, it's very soft." It's a very brave move to put an all-white outfit on."

We have seen Kate choose to wear white a number of times, such as at her Together at Christmas Carol Concert, where she donned a longline coat by Chris Kerr and matching white Holland Cooper trousers.

Another stand-out moment Kate chose white was when she walked the BAFTA red carpet with her husband, Prince William, in another incredible Alexander McQueen masterpiece, which she paired with black gloves.
