Thanks to Gold, fans are still able to tune into dinnerladies, 26 years after the popular BBC sitcom came to an end. The show was created by legendary comedian Victoria Wood, who also starred in the show as Brenda Furlong.

Over the two seasons the show ran for, fans were swept away by Brenda's slow-burn romance canteen manager Tony Martin, with the final episode seeing the star-crossed lovers plan to run off together to Scotland.

However, away from the show, Victoria was married for 25 years to magician Geoffrey Durham, who was also known as The Great Soprendo. The couple were wed in 1980, and during their relationship, they welcomed daughter Grace and son Henry; however, in 2005 they ended up divorcing, after separating three years previously.

Who is Geoffrey Durham?

Born in 1949, Geoffrey developed an interest in magic when he was ten, but as he became a teenager, the hobby went away and he pursued a career in acting. However, when one of his characters was required to do a selection of magic tricks, his interest was rekindled.

After making his debut as The Great Soprendo, Geoffrey ended up becoming a television star thanks to the children's TV show, Crackerjack!. The star continued appearing on TV for many years, including on shows like Countdown and The Best of Magic, and he tutored Doctor Who star Sylvester McCoy when the star needed to perform magic in the show.

Relationship with Victoria

Victoria and Geoffrey first met in 1976 when they were both performing at the Phoenix Theatre, Leicestershire. Reflecting on their first meeting, Victoria said: "It was just one of those things when you click.

"He was encouraging because comedy's a very lonely thing to do without someone in your corner. I don't think it would have worked as well with him. We just did everything together."

The couple married in 1980, although speaking for Let's Do It: The Authorised Biography Of Victoria Wood, Victoria admitted that she didn't want to get married after her parents' marriage fell apart, which led to the couple rowing on several occasions.

In 2005, the couple divorced, after separating in 2002, although they both remained quiet as the reasons behind their split. Speaking to The Guardian after their divorce, Victoria said: "I take a lot of responsibility. If I [expletive] up, then I bear the consequences. I don't feel hard done by. I've felt very guilty about my part in it.

The couple would row about marrying

"I felt a failure, completely. That's quite hard to live with. If you're quite a punishing sort of person anyway, then: woah, you've suddenly got the biggest mallet to whack yourself over the head with."

While Victoria didn't marry again before her death at the age of 62 in 2016, Geoffrey has since found love with tour manager Helen Morris Brown. The couple married each other in 2014.
