MobLand actor Emmett J. Scanlan hailed the second season of the Guy Ritchie series for Paramount+, which stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, as being "bananas" as he shared spoilers during a red carpet appearance in London.
The 47-year-old Irish star was at the BFI Southbank on Tuesday evening for the premiere of his latest Netflix show, How to Get to Heaven From Belfast, created by Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee.
Wearing a long khaki green woollen coat over a turtle-neck jumper in the same colour and a pair of brown suit trousers, the actor posed for pictures on the carpet and stood in for the cast photo that also included Saoirse-Monica Jackson, The Lover's Roisin Gallagher, Unforgotten's Sinead Keenan, and Industry's Caoilfhionn Dunne.
Walking the media-line, he stopped to chat with HELLO! who also attended a special screening and Q&A of the highly anticipated dark comedy and mystery series, and revealed what viewers could expect from the upcoming season of MobLand.
He exclusively told us: "If you liked season one, penned incredibly by Jez Butterworth, then season two is season one on steroids! It is insane, it's bananas. I loved season one, I loved reading it and getting lost in that world. I think season two is even better. The scripts are fantastic."
The Kin actor went on to share what it was like working with legendary Hollywood icon Pierce and admitted he was his "hero".
"I get to go toe-to-toe with Pierce Brosnan for a number of scenes and he is an absolute delight. They say never meet your heroes but I mean that's [expletive] because this guy is so warm, so welcoming, and so nurturing and such an artist," Emmett gushed.
He added: "To work with heroes and to get to be on set with people who are better than me inevitably, it makes every day a school day. I just get to learn from them. It's amazing!"
Behind the scenes of MobLand season two
While chatting about the next installment of the British crime drama that follows two rival crime families, the Harrigans and the Stevensons, as they embark on a violent turf war in the middle of London, Emmett told us what it was like being on set.
He revealed: "It's a remarkable feeding ground to learn every single time, and you're surrounded by people you grew up watching. There's Helen and Pierce and [Tom] Hardy - I mean, it's impossible to go on set and not leave becoming a better person and fingers crossed a better actor. You watch these guys at the top of their game doing their thing and I'm just fanning out with them."
Fans are still waiting for a season two release date and with most details being kept firmly under wraps, there's little we know about the plot, other than the fact that Emmett's character, head of security to Pierce's Conrad Harrigan, Paul O'Donnell, is definitely returning and we think, so are most of the primary cast.
Emmett's ride to heaven from Belfast
Alongside filming with Guy and the rest of the MobLand cast, Emmett enjoyed promoting the new Netflix show that has promised to fill a Derry Girls void we've all been feeling since the final episode of the comedy hit aired in 2022.
Following three friends from Belfast, who have nurtured their relationships since their school days, as they reunite to mourn the death of their former friend Greta, unusual twists and turns reveal a more sinister plot at play.
Billed as a mystery, the series is still peppered with Lisa's comedic genius and features a heavily Irish cast, including Emmett who plays Greta's husband, Owen.
How to Get to Heaven From Belfast is out on Netflix on Thursday 12 February.
