Steve Burton is taking a well-deserved break from General Hospital.
The beloved soap opera, which has aired a whopping 15,000 episodes, has been around since the early 1960s, and per IMDb, has featured over 4,000 credited cast members in its legendary run.
The actor, who stars as Jason Morgan, has appeared on over 2,000, and is taking a leave of absence — but promises to be back.
This week, Steve, 55, took to Instagram and along with a photo of himself revealed that he would be taking "a short break" from General Hospital.
The reason? He wants to enjoy newlywed life! "I'm newly married and looking forward to spending some quality time with my family," he further wrote.
In May of last year, Steve married chef and content creator Michelle Lundstrom, 44, in an intimate Orthodox church ceremony in Laguna Beach, two years after divorcing his first wife Sheree Gustin, who he had married in 1999.
I'm grateful for all the support and will be back this summer," Steve concluded, and fans were quick to take to the comments section under the post and extend their support.
"Steve Burton, congratulations on your marriage! I will be counting down the days until you return! You do a great job on GH!! We will MISS you!!" one wrote, as others followed suit with: "Enjoy your break with your lovely family. And hopefully the writers will give you a storyline you deserve when you return," and: "Congratulations to you and your family, you deserve it. Sending love and happiness," as well as: "Good for you Steve! Enjoy the break. We will await your return."
Steve and his ex-wife Sheree are parents to daughter Makena Grace, 21, son Jack Marshall, 19, and a third child, daughter Brooklyn, who is ten years old.
Michelle also has kids from a previous relationship; during a 2023 appearance on Netflix's cooking competition show Barbeque Showdown, she said they were eight and 12 years old at the time.
Sheree has also since remarried and welcomed two more children. Her fourth child, daughter Izabella, was born in August 2022, one month after Steve filed for divorce, and her fifth, daughter Addy Jay, was born in February of 2024, just weeks after the divorce between the former couple was finalized. In February 2025, she married Jason Amador.
