The series, which originally aired on Paramount+ in October 2024, is set in the dystopian near future, where men are electronically tagged and bound by a 7pm curfew. When a woman is brutally murdered at night, doubts arise about the policy's effectiveness.

One of the most enjoyable things about crime dramas is the twists and turns, and it seems this dystopian series has plenty. Plus, like many great detective shows, the story is based on a gripping novel: After Dark by Jayne Cowie.

What is The Curfew about?

Set in a world where men are bound by curfew from 7pm to 7am, the story begins when a woman is brutally murdered during the night. When her body is left outside the Women's Safety Centre, veteran Detective Inspector Pamela Green suspects that a man is responsible, despite the victim's best friend confessing to the murder.

The synopsis continues: "As Pamela and keen rookie DC Eddie Wilson (Mitchell Robertson) delve into the victim and suspect’s lives, they find they keep being brought back to a tragic incident at the Tagging Centre two weeks ago, where a man was tasered to death.

"Pamela and Eddie discover everyone they meet has something to hide, Pamela even wonders if she can trust her own colleagues in the police. With the upcoming vote in Parliament to make curfew permanent only one week away, this is the worst possible moment for a murder that implicates a man – suggesting the system isn't as infallible as it's being sold."

It concludes: "The stakes of this investigation couldn't be higher. It could take the whole system down. Pamela will be forced to make a big decision that could impact the safety of women everywhere."

What have viewers said about The Curfew?

Upon its initial release in 2024, viewers hailed the show as "riveting", with many binge-watching the series in one sitting.
