The Night Manager star Hugh Laurie has taken to X to pay tribute toTehran co-producer Dana Eden, who was found dead in Athens on Sunday. The producer, 52, was filming season four of the spy thriller in Greece, where local police have reported she had taken her own life.
International production company Donna and Shula Productions released a statement clarifying the circumstances of her death. "This is a moment of great sorrow for the family, friends, and colleagues," it read. "The production company wishes to clarify that rumours regarding a criminal or nationalistic-related death are not true and are unfounded."
Hugh, 66, joined the Apple TV+ Israeli TV series in season three as Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector who becomes caught up in the action with leading Mossad agent Tamar Rabinyan (Niv Sultan).
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Hugh paid tribute to Dana in a post that read: "Dana Eden, who co-created and produced 'Tehran', died on Sunday, seemingly by her own hand. It's a terrible thing. She was brilliant, and funny, and an exceptional leader. Love and condolences to all who knew her."
Fans soon took to the comments to share their condolences. "So sad. She was quite a talent," said one person, while another penned: "So sorry to hear this… may she rest in peace." A third added: "How very sad. Clearly a very talented woman."
Dana was an Israeli television producer and writer, having worked across various projects like Saving the Wildlife (2018), Magpie (2019) and Tehran (2020). While little is known about her life away from her work, she spoke to Nerds That Geek in 2022 about bringing Tehran to life on screen.
Speaking after the premiere of season two, Dana said she was invested in the series from the very beginning. "I really believed in the show from the very first moment, and the first season," she said.
"We believed it would be a success, but we couldn't imagine it would be such a global success. And of course, we wouldn't imagine that we [would] win the international Emmys, and best drama."
After first airing in September 2020, Tehran proved a success and took home an Emmy for best drama series in November 2021 – the first Israeli series to win the award.
Alongside Hugh Laurie and Niv Sultan, other stars on the show include Glenn Close, Shaun Toub, Shervin Alenabi and Elnaaz Norouzi.
