Love on the Spectrum fans were heartbroken earlier this month when it was revealed that Abbey Romeo and David Isaacman had split after four and a half years of dating.
Their breakup follows weeks of speculation after fans noticed that the pair had stopped posting photos of each other on social media, despite appearing together in the latest season of the Netflix show.
Amid claims that the couple split due to a disagreement over marriage, Abbey's mother, Christine, set the record straight.
Opening up about her daughter's breakup in a video posted on her YouTube channel, Christine revealed that the pair are happy living different lives and will have a "forever bond".
"I think people are missing the point about Abbey and David," she said. "I think they will have a forever bond. There was no fight over engagements and rings being thrown around."
"Abbey would say she wanted to get married, which really meant, 'I want to feel like a normal person in the world and do what they do in their relationships,'" she continued. "It was almost like having a party, not the idea of moving in together."
Expanding on their split, Christine continued: "David was happy in his way of doing life and Abbey's was different. And they found that out over time.
"I'm grateful for the time they had. It was a fantastic relationship," she added.
Christine also noted that the most recent season of Love on the Spectrum was filmed a year ago "The show shoots and you see it a year later," she explained. "So just remember that things are not happening in the chronological order that you might think."
Abbey and David's relationship
Abbey and David first met on a blind date in 2021 while appearing on season one of the Netflix reality series, Love on the Spectrum. The popular series, which is in its fourth season, follows people on the autism spectrum as they navigate love and relationships.
The former couple went on to appear in season two, in which David surprised Abbey with a trip to Africa, and in the most recent season, which began airing in April.
In season four, the pair discussed the prospect of marriage after their co-stars Madison Marilla and Tyler White became engaged.
"I'm so happy for them," Abbey said. "Hopefully we're next."
David added: "Yes, we can only be engaged whenever the time is right. Besides, I love you to infinity and beyond."
Love on the Spectrum is available to stream on Netflix.
