Ricky Gervais' long-term partner Jane Fallon has been flooded with support from loved ones amid her ongoing cancer battle. The bestselling author shared an update from hospital on Monday after revealing earlier this month that she needed a second operation for her breast cancer diagnosis.

Jane, 65, shared in a video on 3 April that she would be undergoing "exactly the same operation" as she had last month, but this time the surgeons would be "just taking a bit less". In her latest update on 13 April, the author posted a photo from a hospital bed with her compression socks on. "The popsox are on again. Wish me luck," she wrote, seemingly being admitted for her latest surgery.

Friends and fans gathered in the comments to show their support – including messages from bestselling author Catherine Steadman and The Voice presenter Emma Willis, who sweetly wrote: "Sending luck and love Jane," with a red heart emoji. "Huge love and luck Jane," New Tricks actress Tamzin Outhwaite added.

Breast cancer diagnosis

Jane shared her breast cancer battle publicly on 12 March after being diagnosed a month earlier following a routine mammogram over Christmas. The author said it had been caught in the "very early stage" and her prognosis was looking "excellent".

"Since then I’ve had more mammograms, more biopsies and an MRI so they can pinpoint the problem area precisely. It’s been a lot, I’m not going to lie," she added.

Jane Fallon had her first operation in March

After undergoing her first surgery on 23 March, Jane explained the popsox "have to stay on for 48 hours, so I’m going to style them out as a new trend". "Now I just have to wait 8-10 days for confirmation that they’ve got it all and the margins are clear," she wrote at the time while appearing to be recovering at the home she shares with her long-term partner, Ricky. Jane and Ricky have never married, but have been in a relationship and living together since the '80s.

In her video update on 3 April, Jane revealed she had her follow-up appointment and was told she required further surgery. "They basically got it all, what they haven't got is quite a clear margin around the edge of what they've taken," she explained. "So, I am gonna have to have another op just to make sure that they get everything, which is a bit of a pain, but it's not a worry. "

"But I do know now that the recovery is so much easier than I thought it was going to be," she added, while carrying her rescue cat Pickle, who she shares with Ricky.  Jane said that after the operation she would need another check-up to confirm the margin was clear.

"I’m still getting fabulous treatment. And I know how lucky I am to have had my diagnosis so early - from a routine mammogram with absolutely no symptoms," she wrote in the video caption. "I’ve had so many conversations with lovely people who’ve come up to me in the street in the last couple of weeks and told me their own personal experiences, and it’s totally rammed home both how different it is for everyone and also how important screening and early diagnosis really is."
