Taylor Momsen is having an interesting week. The 32-year-old singer is on the AC/DC Power Up tour in Mexico City with her band The Pretty Reckless. But ahead of her show on Wednesday, April 15 at Estadio GNP Seguros, Taylor made an impromptu trip to the hospital.
The night before their show, the singer posted a photo of a gnarly rash on her right leg to her 2.4 million Instagram followers. She captioned the post: "Hospital today, show tomorrow, poisonous spiders are NO BUENO. But the show must go on, see you tomorrow Mexico City!"
The singer first noticed the spider bite a week earlier, sharing a video of a doctor looking at the bite. Taylor wrote on Instagram: "So it wouldn’t be an AC/DC tour if I didn't get bit…this time a massive spider decided to take a chunk out of me and its venom did a number on my system."
She continued: "Had to have the wonderful doctors in Mexico come and deliver quite the shot before the show last night…add it to the list! Spider woman? Batgirl?"
While Taylor hoped the trip to the hospital would be quick enough for her to perform, the Gossip Girl actress shared another update this morning. Taylor posed for a selfie in a hospital gown, a face mask, and an ice pack held to her forehead.
She also shared a video of her being pushed through the hospital on a bed, with an outline drawn around the rash on her leg to ensure it didn't spread any further. Taylor wrote: "Or I just spend the night in the hospital…thank you to the amazing doctors who, well, they know."
While neither Taylor or The Pretty Reckless have made any announcements about their show scheduled tonight, it wouldn't surprise fans if she had to cancel.
Fans responses to Taylor's hospitalization
Friends and Fans rushed to Taylor's comments to send her their well wishes. One fan wrote: "Nooo Taylor I'm so so sorry! Wishing you a speedy recovery and sending you virtual hugs. We love you!!"
Another person commented: "Oh nooooo @taylormomsen !!! Get well soon rock star." And one fan jokingly asked: "At least, did it give you powers?"
How dangerous are poisonous spider bites
Taylor has not shared what kind of spider bit her, but some spider bites can be very dangerous. Per the Cleveland Clinic, the most dangerous spiders are black widows, brown recluses, and hobo spiders.
But, "most spiders aren't aggressive to people, and their fangs are too small to puncture human skin." Symptoms of a spider bite include rashes, like the one Taylor shared to her Instagram, as well as headaches, nausea, and muscle cramps.
According to the Cleveland Clinic: "Seeing the spider is the best way to confirm both a bite and the type of spider. Otherwise, there isn't a way to test for a spider bite or determine what bit you."
To treat spider bites, it's recommended to clean the area, rest, and take an allergy medicine, and of course, seek medical attention for any severe symptoms.
