Ozzy Osbourne's son, Jack Osbourne, revealed he had become a father for the fifth time this week and announced the arrival of his little girl with a very special name.

Taking to his Instagram account, the 40-year-old shared an adorable video clip of the newborn lying in a cot. Next to her head, a wooden plaque displayed her name, Ozzy Matilda Osbourne, the time of her birth, 8:49 am, and her weight, seven pounds, twelve ounces.

Jack welcomed Ozzy with his second wife, Aree Gearhart, with whom he also shares a three-year-old daughter, Maple.

Paying tribute to his late father, rocker Ozzy, who died on 22 July, 2025, aged 76, Jack captioned his video: "Introducing Ozzy Matilda Osbourne", and fans rushed to the comment section to send congratulatory messages.

While the new dad and his family enjoy their newborn baby bubble, HELLO! asked the experts what Jack's tribute to his late father revealed about their relationship before his death, and how it will affect baby Ozzy in her later years.

Why do people name babies after loved ones?

When a loved one dies, it is understandable that their families feel a need to preserve their memories in some way. For a handful, that could mean carrying their life forward through their name.

In some cultures, names are traditionally passed down, while in others, it is more of a choice to call new babies after late relatives.

HCPC-registered Senior Education and Child Psychologist Dr Sasha Hall, who has over 15 years of experience, revealed why Jack may have felt a desire to name his child after his dad, despite her being a baby girl.

She told HELLO!: "People name babies after loved ones for a range of emotional, cultural and family reasons. In some families, there is a long-standing tradition of passing names down through generations, either as a first name or a middle name.

"Sometimes this is a clearly recognised custom, and sometimes it develops more quietly over time. For many parents, it is a way of linking generations together and acknowledging the people who came before them."

The expert added: "It can also be a gesture of admiration, gratitude or pride, particularly when the name honours someone who has played an important role within the family.

"Giving a child the name of a loved one who has passed away can be a meaningful way of keeping that person present in the family story. A name carries emotional significance and is likely to prompt memories, conversations and stories about the person it came from," she went on to say.

Dr Sasha believed that "when a loss is recent, a new baby arriving with that name can also feel like a gentle source of comfort for the family". The psychologist further explained: "For some people, it can feel like a loving tribute or even a kind of gift, creating a sense that the person’s presence and influence continue within the family in a symbolic or spiritual way."

Jack and Ozzy's lively bond

Aside from preserving the memory of the Black Sabbath frontman, Jack's choice of name for his new baby could indicate key details about his relationship with his father when he was alive.

Jack is Ozzy's only son and is the youngest child of the rocker and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, coming in behind Aimee, who is the eldest, and Kelly, the middle child.

Dr Sasha revealed: "Naming a baby after a parent can sometimes reflect admiration, affection or a sense that the relationship was deeply meaningful.

"It may suggest that the parent had a strong influence on the person they became or that there is a wish to honour their place within the family. In that sense, the name can be a quiet acknowledgement of the bond they shared and the role that the parent played in their life."

A cross-generational connection

Despite never meeting her grandparent, for baby Ozzy, her namesake will mean that she has a living connection with him as she will often be told stories about where her unique moniker came from.

"For the child, sharing a name with a grandparent they never met can create a symbolic connection across generations," Dr Sasha explained. She continued: "As they grow up, they are likely to hear stories about the person they were named after and learn about their personality, values or life experiences.

"This can help children feel connected to their wider family history and give them a sense of belonging within that story. The name becomes a bridge between past and present, allowing the grandparent’s memory to remain part of family life while the child still develops their own identity."
