Peter Capaldi rose to fame playing the iconic role of spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It, however, at home, he was simply a doting father to his only daughter, Cecily, whom he welcomed in the early 90s.
Sitting around the breakfast table, the now 34-year-old Criminal Record actor had not one, but two, famous parents pouring her cereal before she headed off to school from the family home in north London's Crouch End.
Cecily, affectionately known as Cissy, was born in December 1992 to Peter, 34 at the time, and his producer wife, Elaine Collins.
She is the power couple's only child and was largely kept out of the limelight growing up, making occasional appearances with them for premieres or screenings of their work.
While little is known about her professional career, it is presumed she didn't follow in her parents' footsteps and is rather carving out a more private life away from the glare of the spotlight.
Grandad duties
Peter and Cecily have been spotted out and about with their two sons, who were reportedly born in 2021 and 2023.
The Suicide Squad star was pictured cradling Cecily's newborn in 2021 during a father-daughter outing in Highgate, London.
He was rocking the child while he drank coffee and looked after him, pushing his pram while snacking on a chocolate bar, in pictures published by the Daily Mail.
What has Peter said about Cecily?
While Peter and his wife, Elaine, chose to separate their starry lives from their home lives, the Doctor Who actor has previously opened up about the struggles of spending time away from his family.
During his time on the BBC show, the twelfth Doctor filmed for seven months in Cardiff, 150 miles from home in London, and revealed he was missing his family.
At a screening of his debut episode, he said: "I have barely had time to see my wife and daughter.
"I catch up with them and they tell me what plumbing needs doing. Trying to find your way through this maze can be quite difficult."
He also revealed an insight into his relationship with Cecily when he first accepted the role as the Doctor and explained why he had to keep the happy news a secret from her.
Peter said on the BBC special Doctor Who Live: "It's so wonderful not to keep the secret any longer. For a while I couldn't tell my daughter and she was looking at people linked to the show and was getting rather upset that nobody was mentioning me. I just had to say, 'Rise above it, darling'."
Cecily's superstar cousin
Cecily's dad, Peter, is the second cousin once removed of the pop singer Lewis Capaldi, known for his chart-topping hits, 'Someone You Loved', 'Before You Go' and 'Forget Me'.
Lewis spoke openly about his relationship with Peter during a chat with the Daily Record in 2018, after the actor was spotted at his London concert.
He said at the time: "My dad and my aunties told me we were related to Peter a while ago, I think he’s my dad’s second cousin. Whenever he came on the TV, they'd always say 'You're related to Malcolm Tucker' or 'You're related to Doctor Who.'"
Lewis continued: "He's a really cool guy. It's a big inspiration to have someone who's so successful in the family."
