We all know there is pretty much nothing worse than Oxford Street on a Saturday. Especially in the bleak mid-winter, where umbrellas jab dangerously close to your eye-line, and your trusty puffer becomes the only thing standing between you and a tide of overwhelmed tourists.

One evening, while killing time before dinner plans, I found myself seeking shelter among the rails of discounted goodies at TKMaxx. There, I stumbled upon one of my best finds of the year - a pair of Italian leather cow print pony hair ballerina flats that I quickly slammed onto the check-out desk in fashion-induced euphoria.

Pony hair, which is calfskin leather with the hair left on, has been a mainstay on the fashion market since the early 20th century. Known for its luxurious, textured construction, the design is primarily used for accessories and often incorporates playful animal print.

Fresh off fashion month, pony hair has come galloping back into favour - storming straight to the top of the H! Fashion sartorial agenda for autumn/winter 2026. Fendi opted for chunky, tiger-striped Cuban boots, Ulla Johnson debuted sleek, spotted slip-ons, Rabanne leaned into Y2K palettes with a leopard print, lace-up heel, Tolu Coker teamed up with Roger Vivier, putting Dalmatian print firmly on the map, and Marni surprised with criss-cross sandaled pumps in cow print.

The sneaker market fell and fast for textured options, with Puma releasing its cool-girl ballet flat sneaker in an adorable deer print colourway (another major trend coming in hot this season) and Alohas offering up a sweet spotted iteration for those who favour a comfortable shoe for everyday commuting. It's near impossible not to spy a befurred pair of leopard print Adidas Sambas on the tube nowadays.

As per, the celebrity sphere was quick to catch onto the elegant trend, with stars such as Olivia Dean, Princess Olympia of Greece and Dua Lipa all adding a pair of pony hair heels to their impressive arsenal.
