Buckingham Palace
The most recognised, it seems only fitting to commence with the 775-room royal home, Buckingham Palace. It is technically still the official home of the monarch, but King Charles is rumoured to move in properly in 2027, after renovations are complete. The grand palace is where Charles often works and it's where the royals gather for occasions such as state visits, royal weddings and Trooping The Colour, where they are photographed on the famous balcony. It's also a very popular tourist attraction with people from all over the world.

Windsor Castle
With 1,000 rooms, Windsor Castle is the biggest of all the royal properties. It's located just an hour away from Buckingham Palace and it is where Queen Elizabeth II spent the lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. The tourist hotspot has a 4.7-star rating on Google and it is also where regular investitures are held where people are presented with special honours.

Kensington Palace
Kensington Palace is home to several royal family members. The most famous are Prince William and Princess Kate, who have Apartment 1A as a London base with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, meanwhile, live at Ivy Cottage on the grounds. Prince and Princess Michael of Kent at Apartment 10, the Duke of Kent at Wren House and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester at the Old Stables.

Forest Lodge
Prince William and Kate's main home is now Forest Lodge, as of November 2025. This is an eight-bed residence set within the picturesque setting of Windsor Great Park. The Georgian-style property was formerly known as Holly Grove. The place required a full renovation before the family moved in, and it is said to have features like marble fireplaces and an outdoor tennis court.

Anmer Hall
The Prince and Princess of Wales also have a countryside mansion - Anmer Hall in Norfolk. It's situated on the Sandringham Estate and was a wedding gift to the couple from Queen Elizabeth II in 2011. They isolated themselves there during the COVID-19 crisis, and formerly used it as their main residence while Prince William worked as a pilot for East Anglian Air Ambulance until 2017.

Frogmore Cottage in Windsor was once Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's main home when they resided in the UK. The castle is where the royals go for a summer break
Balmoral Castle
It was said to be one of Queen Elizabeth II's favourite places in the world, Balmoral Castle acts as a holiday home for the royal family. It's set in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, and the family spend their summers partaking in idyllic outdoor pursuits like hikes and horse riding. Since King Charles took over from his late mother, he has thrown open the doors to allow members to see more of the interior than ever before. After it was a sell-out success in 2024, His Majesty has continued with the venture. Visitors are now able to tour the Entrance Hall, the Red Corridor, the Library, the Family Dining Room and the Drawing Room inside the iconic castle.

Birkhall
King Charles and Queen Camilla often spend their summer holidays at their 18th-century property, Birkhall. Charles inherited the property from his grandmother when she died in 2002, and he and Camilla even spent their honeymoon there in 2005. They spent much of the coronavirus lockdown period there, too.

Clarence House
Clarence House is the King and Queen Camilla's current London residence. It was previously home to Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Queen Mother, who lived there until her death in 2002. So, it is a residence which holds a lot of sentimental family memories for Charles. While the doors used to open for certain dates in August, for years now, the residence has remained private.

Highgrove House
Arguably, King Charles' favourite home is his countryside retreat, Highgrove House, in Gloucestershire. The royal bought it in 1980 and lived there with Princess Diana and their sons William and Harry and now he uses it as a weekend and holiday home. The gardens are iconic, and not only are they open for the public to tour, one of them previously won a Silver-Gilt medal at the 2001 Chelsea Flower Show.

When Queen Camilla married into the royal family, she decided not to give up her privately owned home, Ray Mill House in Gloucestershire. Camilla purchased it in 1996 following her divorce from Andrew Parker Bowles. It's close to Highgrove, and it is reported that often the Queen will retreat here while Charles goes to his own sanctuary. Recently, she discreetly signed over the home to her son-in-law, Harry Lopes and financier Jake Irwin, on behalf of other family members.

Royal Lodge
Royal Lodge Windsor is where Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor lived until earlier this year. Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice were raised there and before this, Queen Elizabeth II also spent her childhood there. Her famous life-like playhouse, Y Bwthyn Bach, was situated on the grounds. It is unknown if this has now been relocated or remains in place.

Sandringham is synonymous with royal Christmases as it is where the entire family gather to celebrate the festive season. When Queen Elizabeth II was alive, she would stay there right until early February, to mark the anniversary of her father's death. The 19th century home is set within 600 acres of stunning land which has many different properties on it. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to move to Marsh Farm imminently, after giving up his lease on Royal Lodge.

Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire was bought by Queen Elizabeth II in 1976 for her daughter Princess Anne and former husband, Captain Mark Phillips. Bagshot Park
Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie have called Bagshot Park in Surrey their home for over 25 years, after moving in following their royal wedding in 1999. They now share it with their two children Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex. It was recently revealed that Edward also had a peppercorn rent deal, like his brother.

Castle of Mey
The Castle of Mey in Caithness on the north coast of Scotland was bought by the Queen Mother in 1952 after the death of her husband, King George VI, and was inherited by King Charles after her death in 2002. In May 2020, Charles opened a new ten-bedroom bed and breakfast on the grounds of the castle, the Granary Lodge.

Dumfries House
King Charles owns an additional Scottish residence, Dumfries House. The 18th-century home is set on 2000 acres and was saved by the royal intervening in 2007. Since acquiring it, Charles has instructed it to be painstakingly restored. Hillsborough Castle is the King's official residence in Lisburn, Northern Island. It's also home to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, who holds an annual garden party there, usually attended by a royal. In 2014, Historic Royal Palaces took over the running of Hillsborough Castle and Gardens and completed a five-year refurbishment believed to have cost £24 million.

The King's official Scottish residence is the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. It often hosts formal receptions, including state visits, ceremonies and garden parties for a week during the summer. It began as a monastery but has been home to the royals for over 500 years.

Charles' Transylvanian home
The Blue House
King Charles also owns a rural farmhouse in Viscri, Transylvania, known as the Blue House. He bought the property in 2006, after falling in love with the country during a visit in 1998, and is believed to spend a couple of days a year there, while the guest house is rented out to the public.
