Princess Eugenie, 36, is expecting her third child with her husband Jack Brooksbank. The pair are set to welcome a new arrival later this year, to join their sons, August and Ernest, who were born in 2021 and 2023, respectively. At present, the family has the most amazing living set-up, splitting their time between sunny Portugal and their royal residence in London, but here's why their third child could compromise this balance…
We've seen Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's youngest daughter in London with her adorable baby bump, and we know she's due at some point this year, but her pregnancy could keep her grounded way before her due date. Women in the later stages of pregnancy are often discouraged from flying and sometimes even banned from doing so, which could make jetting back and forth to Portugal rather tricky.
The NHS explains: "After week 28 of pregnancy, the airline may ask for a letter from your doctor or midwife confirming your due date, and that you are not at risk of complications."
It is very likely that Eugenie will spend the latter part of her pregnancy in the UK as she gave birth to both of her sons at the Portland Hospital in Westminster, London, so it would make sense that it is the same plan for baby number three.
Eugenie's Portugal life
While the family may have to temporarily kiss goodbye to life in Portugal, we're sure they will return again to their totally idyllic surroundings. It is believed the family of four reside at the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club due to Jack's job, as he is working with property tycoon Mike Meldman, who is managing a 300-home development on the site. The resort boasts amazing activities such as golf, horseback riding and yoga all in a luxury setting, enticing high-profile and super-affluent individuals.
Princess Eugenie's pregnancy announcement
On Monday, Eugenie shared a heartwarming picture of her sons on Instagram, with them holding an ultrasound photo on her Instagram account, writing: "Baby Brooksbank due 2026! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👶🏻♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️"
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their third child together, due this summer. August (aged five) and Ernest (aged two) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family. His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news.”
This statement differed from the two previous pregnancy announcements made on behalf of Eugenie. This time, the Palace omitted the line "both families are delighted with the news," which featured in both of the others. This is likely to keep the spotlight away from Eugenie's disgraced father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Princess Eugenie on motherhood
In an online chat in 2024 for the charity, The Anti-Slavery Collective, Eugenie made some rare comments about her motherhood experience. "Becoming a parent is the most special, mind-blowing experience of a person’s life.
"My children make my world go around. It has made me hungrier to do the work. I want to educate my children and all young people about being vulnerable, sensitive, and empathetic towards each other. I don’t want anyone to reach the age of 21 having not heard about modern slavery, like I did."
