With nine bedrooms, five bathrooms, six reception rooms and even a quad bike garage, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson's home with his wife Carrie and their four children provides a spacious sanctuary for the family.
So when Carrie let slip a detail about her sleeping arrangements at their £3.8 million Oxfordshire home known as Brightwell Manor, it came as a surprise to us.
To mark her youngest daughter's first birthday, the 38-year-old shared a series of adorable photos of the tot over the past 12 months, from playing in her doll's house to riding on dad Boris' shoulders. In the caption, she explained that her "velcro baby" was the reason she has been unable to have a private bedroom.
"Happy first birthday to my darling Poppy. My 'Velcro baby' - always happiest in my arms and still sleeping in our bed every night. Your big blue eyes and dimples melt my heart, and your laugh is the best sound I’ve ever heard. You bring us so much joy," wrote the media consultant.
While some shared relatable stories about their kids sharing their bed, others seemed shocked by the revelation. "What a sweetheart. Love that she’s still in your bed. Mine are too!" wrote one, while another commented: "Still sleeping in your bed? Crikey."
Carrie and Boris are also parents to three older children: Wilfred, Romy and Frank.
Room swaps
Carrie has kept fans up to date on her interior decorations as she personalised each of her children's bedrooms in the past. For example, Frank previously had an "English garden"-themed nursery with hand-painted trees on the wall.
In 2024, Carrie revealed her kids had had a shake-up with their sleeping arrangements, with Romy moving into her older brother's former bedroom.
She had a new heart-print wool blanket with her name, 'Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson,' stitched onto the front. Months earlier, Wilfred had been pictured in his PJs in the same room, finished with a framed French poster depicting Babar the Elephant and a daisy bedframe.
Home's history
The former Prime Minister and his wife live in a Grade II-listed country house that is thought to date back to 1605. Located in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, the house features its own moat, which surrounds the house on three sides.
The listing also previously shared: "The heart of the house is believed to date back to 1605, with the rooms that are currently the sitting room, family room and oak-panelled bedroom suite making up the oldest part of the property.
"Towards the end of the 18th century the attractive symmetrical Georgian frontage was added," the listing continued. "The annexe and kitchen were built in the 1950s, in keeping with the Georgian character of the house."
According to The Times, they also won permission from the South Oxfordshire district council to knock down the existing extension and rebuild it into a boot room, a patio extension, a scullery, larder, laundry, breakfast room and plant room.
Back in 2023, Boris shared that he had more grand plans to make the property the perfect place for his kids. "I'm building a garage for the quad bike. Not a big quad bike, it was a miniature quad bike. They're too small for quad bikes," he explained on Talk TV.
