Royal wedding guests

It's not known who will attend the royal wedding next year, although expected guests include Peter's family – his divorced parents, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, his stepfather Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, his sister Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall.

Peter, 48, shares two daughters, Savannah, 14, and Isla, 13, with his ex-wife Autumn Phillips, to whom he was married for 13 years, while he is also the proud uncle of Mia, Lena and Lucas Tindall. Harriet, 45, has a teenage daughter Georgia from a previous relationship. It wouldn't come as a surprise if the bride and groom chose to include their children and nieces and nephew in their bridal party.

As for other members of the royal family, Peter shares a close bond with his cousin Prince William and William's wife Kate, as well as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and their children Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, are also expected to be among the royal attendees.

Peter and Harriet's engagement

Peter proposed to NHS paediatric nurse Harriet over the summer. HELLO! revealed their joyful news shortly afterwards, sharing two photos that showed the groom and bride-to-be standing in a field, with Harriet's exquisite diamond ring on display.

A statement at the time confirmed: "Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.

"Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding."

HELLO!'s royal editor, Emily Nash, also noted at the time: "This is wonderful news for Peter and Harriet, but also the wider royal family. Peter is close to the King and to his cousins and Harriet seems to have been warmly welcomed into the fold.

"The signs that this was serious have been there for some time and seeing Harriet taking part in the royal procession at Royal Ascot this year convinced many royal watchers an engagement was on the cards."

Peter and Harriet's love story

Peter and Harriet are believed to have met at a sporting event involving their children.

They were first rumoured to be dating last year, after they went public with their romance at the Badminton Horse Trials in May 2024. The couple were seen walking hand-in-hand as they cheered on Peter's equestrian sister Zara. At the time, a friend of Peter's said the royal had met someone "recently" and they were "spending time together", but that it was too early to be anything more at this stage.

Their love clearly went from strength to strength as Harriet made more public appearances with her royal boyfriend over the summer of 2024. She attended Royal Ascot in June, where she was seen sipping champagne and chatting with King Charles and Queen Camilla, clearly making a good impression on the royal family.

Since then, the tactile and loved-up couple have been inseparable, attending high-profile events such as Wimbledon, Prince William's charity polo matches, the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo, and the Bahrain Grand Prix, alongside Peter's cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Most recently, she joined the royals on their annual Balmoral summer break in Scotland, where she spent time bonding with her soon-to-be stepchildren and extended family.

Harriet's wedding dress

The bride's wedding dress will naturally remain a secret until the big day, although it's likely Harriet will choose to champion a British designer, possibly even one local to Gloucestershire, where she and Peter live.

"Thinking ahead to her wedding day, I'm certain she will choose a quintessentially British designer, perhaps someone up-and-coming and local to Gloucestershire," Best Quality Designer Handbag 's Royal Correspondent, Danielle Stacey

HELLO!'s Royal Correspondent Danielle Stacey has noted: "Harriet's style is effortless but chic. From A-line summer frocks to printed tea dresses, she hasn't missed the mark and always dresses appropriately for the occasion.

"Some fashion watchers have even predicted that we're already starting to see the 'Harriet-effect,' with pieces she's coveted selling out fast. Thinking ahead to her wedding day, I'm certain she will choose a quintessentially British designer, perhaps someone up-and-coming and local to Gloucestershire."

Harriet's engagement and wedding ring

Peter chose a stunning engagement ring from Pragnell, a Mayfair jeweller that has longstanding connections to the royal family and is largely considered one of the world's finest outlets for jewellery and luxury watches.

Their engagement photos, shared courtesy of i5 MEDIA, showcased Harriet's ring in all its glory.

As for the bride's wedding ring, she and Peter may choose to follow tradition and opt for a band made of Welsh gold. The royal family have used pure Welsh gold to create their wedding bands since 1923 – a tradition started by the Queen Mother.

When the Queen Mother, then known as Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, married the Duke of York, later known as King George V, the couple enlisted the help of Clogau jewellers, who already had "a long and illustrious history" with the British royal family, to create the ring that would symbolise their marriage.

"The symbolism of Welsh gold within the royal family is a subtle nod to the proud and noble heritage of Wales, and highlights how important the country is to them," Clogau's Managing Director Ben Roberts has previously told HELLO!.

Ben added: "Welsh gold is possibly the rarest in the world, so we carefully make sure to include only a small amount within each piece of Clogau jewellery. Our goal is to help preserve the longevity of Welsh gold, whilst keeping Clogau affordable and accessible.

"Each wedding band worn by the royal family is unique, and personally customised to act as a beautiful reminder of their big day. But this does not take away from the storied history and use of Welsh gold."

Over one century later, other brides such as Queen Elizabeth II, the Princess of Wales, Princess Eugenie and the Duchess of Sussex have followed in the footsteps of the Queen Mother.
