Prince William has disclosed the film that he and his three children with Princess Kate "adore" watching at home. The Prince of Wales gave an insight into the movie-viewing habits of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as he walked the BAFTA Film Awards red carpet at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday.

In a clip shared on X, the Prince, 43, who looked sharp in a burgundy velvet suit and black tie, could be seen being asked what his favourite film was. "I've got to be careful because I'm a little biased to a particular person," he replied, referencing his friendship with actor Tom Cruise. “But Top Gun 2, for instance, is one of the most incredible films I've watched in a long time.

"Highest grossing, so serious about how he takes the action scenes. How it doesn't win anything, ever? That's what I care about. It just doesn't win anything. How could it not win anything? It's one of the biggest grossing films probably in recent times, and it just needs a mention somewhere, that's all I care about." The film was released in 2022 as a long-awaited follow-up to the hit 1986 first instalment of the franchise.

The royal father-of-three then shared that it is a film he loves watching with his son George, 12, daughter Charlotte, 10, and son Louis, seven. "Because for me and watching it with my children, they absolutely adore it," he continued. "As much as they love the arty ones…they like the stunts and he takes it so seriously and he cares about cinema."

The Prince is known to share a close bond with the Hollywood actor, 63, and they were seen together with the Princess of Wales at the London premiere of the second Top Gun instalment - properly known as Top Gun: Maverick - in 2022. The film returns to the main character of Maverick three decades later as he confronts his past while training a group of younger Top Gun graduates.

While Tom is considered one of the greatest film stars of all time - and received an honorary Oscar last year - his film Top Gun: Maverick was nominated for six Academy Awards but only received one for Best Sound. It was the highest-grossing film worldwide in 2022, and the most commercially successful of the star's decades-long career.

As the Prince was heaping praise on the film, his wife Princess Kate, 44, revealed that she had seen Hamnet - the winner of the Outstanding British Film award at the this year's BAFTAs, starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley - and it had left her in a "flood of tears". She joked: "I thought it was a bad idea, actually. Ended up with very puffy eyes. It was so beautifully shot. The music as well. The score is fantastic."

The Prince, who has been president of BAFTA since 2010, was also asked about the film. He admitted he hadn't seen it, according to the BBC, explaining: "I need to be in quite a calm state and I am not at the moment. I will save it." His appearance at the event with his wife came just days after the arrest of his uncle Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
