Harry Styles took aim at Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on 14 March as he made his opening monologue during an episode of Saturday Night Live. The 'Aperture' singer, 32, reflected on the attention he has gained while out running in London, particularly in Hampstead Heath, after he spent time away from public view following his sellout Love On Tour stadium tour, which ended in 2023.
"I took up jogging. There's nothing interesting about that," he said. "But because I'm me, people pretend to find that interesting. I don't run to be interesting. I do it for the feeling it gives me, that runner's high. It's just amazing."
Harry Styles' quip about Andrew
The singer, who released his new album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, on 6 March, continued: "Watermelon sugar high, runner's high. And if that doesn't do it for you, I also love ecstasy.
"As a British man who spent a lot of his life in the public eye, I can assure you, there's something nice about being boring. It's better than the alternative."
The camera then cut to the photo of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in the back of a police car following his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in a public office on 19 February. Harry grimaced and modelled loosening his collar in discomfort.
The studio audience laughed wryly at Harry's quip before he swiftly moved on to discussing his new album.
Andrew joke garners reaction at the BRITs
It isn't the first time that a joke has been made about King Charles' brother on a pop culture show following his arrest. While hosting the BRIT Awards on 28 February, host Jack Whitehall also made a satirical illusion to Andrew amid the royal crisis.
As Jack introduced James Blunt and Maya Jama to the stage to announce the winner of the Artist of the Year category, the comedian called James "the only man posher than me at the Brits".
He then quipped that the 'Goodbye My Lover' singer "was about 30th in line to the throne…might be 29th soon". An audience member told HELLO! that the whole crowd went wild, cheering for the joke.
Calls to remove Andrew from line of succession
It came amid intense pressure placed on the monarchy to remove Andrew from the line of succession in the wake of the former Duke of York's arrest at Sandringham.
The calls for Andrew's removal have thus far been supported by several members of the Commonwealth, including Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who wrote to British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to confirm that his government would back "any proposal" to remove Andrew from the line of succession, writing that "Australians take [these allegations] seriously."
