As Buckingham Palace readies itself to commemorate the late Queen Elizabeth II's 100th birthday, it was revealed that Sandringham would play a special role in the celebrations later this month.

The Norfolk estate, owned by King Charles III after he inherited it from his late mother when she died in 2022, announced it would launch an outdoor exhibition in the late monarch's memory.

Sharing a nature-inspired reel to its official Instagram account, the East Anglian estate offered followers a sneak peek at the exhibition trail that allows visitors to walk through the former Queen's life.

The King's mother sadly died aged 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on 8 September 2022, and it would have been her 100th birthday on 21 April this year.

Against the soothing soundtrack of Soft Sun by Dennis Korn, the video contained clips of various garden displays in Sandringham and showed signposts dotted along a sandy path which outlined various milestones in the late Queen's life.

The post was shared with a caption that read: "Celebrating the centenary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth, this exhibition explores her lifelong connection to The Sandringham Estate.

"From her earliest childhood years to her historic seventy-year reign, Sandringham remained a constant thread in her life. This special exhibition traces her extraordinary path, exploring both the global milestones of her reign and the personal mark she left on her cherished Norfolk home."

It concluded with important details about how to access the special showcase: "This exhibition is free to visit and is located in the Sandringham Arboretum."

Followers of the account rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts on the exhibition, with one saying: "This is beautiful," with a red heart emoji, while another added: "Oh how lovely," signing off with a white heart emoji.

100th birthday celebrations

The Sandringham exhibition is one of many events planned that are due to take place during the week of the late Queen's birth. It is expected that many senior members of the royal family will attend the programme of events.

King Charles has reportedly written a speech for the occasion commemorating the 70-year reign of his mother and highlighting her legacy and service.

The royal family will gather for a Buckingham Palace reception on the day of Elizabeth’s birthday. Charities and organisations associated with the late Queen, including Cancer Research UK, the Jockey Club and the Army Benevolent Fund, are invited.

Guests will also include some of the UK’s oldest citizens who share their 100th birthday with the late Queen, and the King will present their centenary cards in person.

Andrew no longer has royal titles after they were stripped by King Charles

It is believed the former prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will not attend any of the centenary events following his arrest in February on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and the stripping of his titles by his brother, Charles, last October.
