King Charles is a very doting grandfather, so he'll be very sad to miss a special day for Princess Charlotte next month.

The monarch, 77, will be visiting the US for a state visit at the end of April – and the official end date was confirmed on Tuesday to be 2 May.

The King's conflicting plans mean that he will conclude his visit in Bermuda on Princess Charlotte's 11th birthday. Prince William and Kate's daughter has her birthday on 2 May.

Bermuda is only four hours behind the UK's time, but grandad-of-five Charles has an action-packed schedule that will likely leave little time for a video or voice call. Following a formal welcome, he has various engagements celebrating arts and culture before opening the new Great Bay Coast Guard Station and meeting representatives from the UK Space Agency.

It is his first visit as Sovereign to a British Overseas Territory and will take place without Queen Camilla, though she's with him for his stint in the US.

King's bond with his grandchildren

King Charles is known to be a hands-on grandfather and plays an active role in Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis's lives.

He has a sweet bond with 10-year-old Charlotte – and they have a lot in common, too. One thing Charles and Charlotte are both known to enjoy is watching ballet. And though he usually wears formal suits, the King has been spotted on multiple occasions with friendship bracelets on his wrist.

These were likely made by Charlotte, who has also been seen wearing the bracelets, which have become a tradition among Taylor Swift fans.

Though Charles knows the Wales children very well – after all, Prince Louis had no concerns clambering onto his lap at the 2022 Platinum Jubilee – he's not as close with Harry and Meghan's children, Archie and Lilibet, who live in the US.

Prince Archie was born in the UK in 2019, but the King has reportedly only met Lilibet once, in 2022.

Growing up so fast!

Princess Charlotte's 11th birthday comes after the Wales children all looked so grown up at the Easter Sunday service earlier this month.

HELLO!'s royal editor, Emily Nash, commented: "George, Charlotte and Louis are growing up before our eyes, and seeing them take part in these formal family moments gives us a glimpse into what the monarchy will look like in the future."

However, some things clearly never change, and Charlotte was spotted holding hands with her mother, the Princess of Wales, in a sweet behind-the-scenes moment.

Last year, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a picture of Charlotte on a hike in Cumbria to celebrate her 10th birthday, taken by Kate on her iPhone. The couple typically shares a portrait of their children on each of their respective birthdays.
