Carl Philip and Sofia of Sweden publicly congratulated their eldest son on social media this Sunday morning. "Today we celebrate our beloved Alexander's 10th birthday," they wrote. The loving message was accompanied by a photo of the birthday boy, in which his striking resemblance to his proud mother is clearly visible.
In the snapshot, the young prince is seated, wearing a green t-shirt, looking at the camera with a half-smile. Prince Alexander was born on 19 April 2016, and was followed by his three younger siblings: Gabriel, eight, Julian, five, and Ines, one .
When the couple's eldest son was born a decade ago, following tradition, his grandfather granted him the Duchy of Södermanland, and he currently occupies fifth place in the line of succession. However, as with Princess Madeleine's children, he belongs to the group of the monarch's grandchildren who are not styled as Royal Highnesses, meaning they will not hold any official institutional roles in the future.
Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil, whose full name is Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil, has been showered with love by his family on a date circled in red on their calendars. They've surely prepared a wonderful party at home for him to blow out the candles on his cake. And rightly so, as the grandson of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia has reached a milestone birthday, undoubtedly a key moment in his development and growth, especially considering the growth spurt he's experienced recently compared to when he was younger.
Since he was three, Estelle and Oscar of Sweden's cousin has also had his own Instagram account , although it's a private profile known only to a select few and is managed by his parents. This isn't surprising, given their long-standing concern about the cyberbullying Sofia herself suffered in the past, when her relationship with Carl Philip became public.
He was most notably first seen in the summer of 2018 at an official event with his parents. Alexander stole the show and won us all over with his charm, spontaneity, and cheerful nature during a visit to the Nynäs Nature Reserve. He arrived in a classic horse-drawn carriage, at a time when the boy sported his characteristic long, wavy blond hair, a colour that has now turned brown as he has grown older.
