Caroline Kennedy attended the 2026 King's Trust Gala on Wednesday, April 29, making a rare public appearance four months after the death of her daughter Tatiana.

The former U.S. ambassador joined King Charles and Queen Camilla at the reception, and although the mother-of-three kept a low profile, in keeping with her usual demeanour, HELLO! can confirm she was in attendance after her name first appeared on the guest list.

Caroline is the daughter of former US President John F Kennedy, and the mother of Tatiana, Jack Schlossberg, and Rose Schlossberg.

She has followed in her mother, Jackie Kennedy's, footsteps by choosing a life of normalcy and privacy, often seen cycling through Central Park or taking public transport, after working for years as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan and also Australia, a Commonwealth realm.

In December 2022, Caroline and her family met Prince William at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, with Caroline giving the Prince a tour.

Wednesday's appearance at the King's Trust Gala was her first public appearance since the death of her daughter Tatiana in December 2025.

Tatiana died at the age of 35 in December 2025 after a cancer diagnosis. The daughter of Caroline and Edwin Schlossberg, and the granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy, the news of her passing was announced by her family through a statement posted via the JFK Library Foundation.

"Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts," it read, naming "George, Edwin and Josephine Moran, Ed, Caroline, Jack, Rose and Rory."

Tatiana shared the news of her terminal acute myeloid leukemia diagnosis in a personal essay only weeks before her death, revealing that she underwent months of chemotherapy followed by an allogeneic stem cell transplant. Her sister, Rose Schlossberg, served as her bone marrow donor, providing the critical cells necessary for the transplant.

"My parents and my brother and sister, too, have been raising my children and sitting in my various hospital rooms almost every day for the last year and a half. They have held my hand unflinchingly while I have suffered," she wrote, and also referenced the Kennedy family's so-called curse that has plagued the family for decades.

"For my whole life, I have tried to be good, to be a good student and a good sister and a good daughter, and to protect my mother and never make her upset or angry. Now I have added a new tragedy to her life, to our family’s life, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it," she shared.
