The most anticipated high street-designer collaboration in years has landed, and the return of H&M x Stella McCartney feels nothing short of a full circle fashion moment. Over 20 years after their first sell-out collection, the luxury British label and high street favourite have reunited, reworking Stella’s greatest hits for a new generation. And yes, it’s satisfyingly chic.
Rooted in Stella McCartney’s signature blend of sharp tailoring and effortless femininity, the collection leans heavily into wardrobe staples you’ll actually wear. Think oversized shirts, sweeping wool coats and impeccably cut suiting, punctuated with a red mini dress and embellished pieces that bring a playful, evening-ready edge, all infused with that undone, cool girl energy Stella does so well.
The campaign is fronted by American singer and actress Renee Rap, with appearances from models Adwoa Aboah and Angelina Kendall. A suitably cool launch party was held in New York last month, previewing the collection on the likes of Amelia Gray and Lila Moss, with Mark Ronson on the decks and a surprise performance from British rapper Dave.
Stella was only the second designer to collaborate with H&M after Karl Lagerfeld back in 2005, which she's since described as "a risk". The high street retailer has now worked with 25 further luxury labels from Erdem to Balmain and Isabel Marant.
What truly sets this collaboration apart is its movement towards more responsible fashion. Stella is renowned for her commitment to sustainability, and across the collection you’ll find organic cotton, recycled materials and innovative sources like industrial corn and oils, proving that style and sustainability can go hand in hand, even on the high street.
And my favourite pieces? I love a cool oversized set, so the grey wool blazer and matching barrel-leg trousers are perfection. A little more out-there is the crystal-embellished body, but whether styled underneath the suit or with a pair of relaxed-cut jeans, it's more wearable than you might initially think.
There are several stand-out dresses, with a red mini that's arguably the star of the show, as well as the impossibly chic white high-neck satin maxi dress, and the return of Stella's cherry motif on a tube dress that's stunning for summer. The collaboration launched at 9am BST on 7 May in selected stores and online, shop the full collection.
