Kelly Clarkson and her family are where they're "supposed to be." The mom-of-two is entering a new chapter, five months after her ex-husband and the father of her children, Brandon Blackstock, tragically passed away from melanoma.
In an appearance on the Third Hour of the Today Show on Friday, February 20, Kelly opened up about her family as she is enter a new chapter as a judge on The Voice: Battle of Champions.
"My grass is so green [right now]," the "Since U Been Gone" singer shared with Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Dylan Dryer. "[My family], we're where we're supposed to be."

Kelly has two children, a daughter River Rose, 11, and a nine-year-old son Remington "Remy" Alexander. She and her kids moved to New York City in 2023 to film the fifth season of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Kelly lost her ex-husband from melanoma
The family experienced hard times together after losing Brandon from a battle with melanoma in August 2025. At the time, Kelly wrote to Instagram: "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment. I need to be fully present for them."

The Grammy winner announced on Monday, February 2 that her daytime talk show would conclude this fall after seven seasons on air. Kelly shared the unexpected news via Instagram, writing: "This was not an easy decision, but this season will be my last hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show. Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives."
Kelly's journey back to The Voice
Kelly is a longtime lover of reality singing competition shows. She got her start after winning the first season of American Idol in 2002. 16 years later, Kelly joined The Voice as a coach and remains the female coach with the most winning contestants.
The singer starred as a coach for nine seasons, leaving in 2023. But, she returns to the reality show on February 23, 2026. The Voice: Battle of Champions features three former winning coaches – Kelly, Adam Levine, and John Legend.
In this fresh version of the show, some iconic singers from past seasons will compete for a second chance to win The Voice trophy. Some other changes include a triple turn competition – the coach who wins the most three chair turns gets a special advantage in the battle rounds – and new voting during the semi-finals and finale.
"[The Voice is] just a really good time," Kelly told Today. Reflecting on her first season on the show, she said: "It was a fun experience. And, I give Blake Shelton a lot of crap, but he did help make me feel at home right off the bat, with his brotherly-love jabs. Adam as well, because we had toured together. So I kind of knew people, too, coming in."
