Nancy is a mom-of-three

Savannah, 54, is the youngest, and most well-known, of Nancy's three children. She has a sister, Annie, and a brother, Camron, 61, both of whom have appeared in videos alongside Savannah urging the public for help in finding their mother, and for her abductor to return her to them.

Annie is a writer and jeweler, according to her biography on the Arizona Commission of the Arts website. She also teaches creative writing at the University of Arizona Poetry Center, authored a book on jewelry-making, and has been published in multiple literary journals.

Meanwhile Camron is a former F-16 pilot. When he took his last flight as an F-16 pilot, Savannah wrote on Instagram: "Col. Charles Camron 'ARLO' Guthrie on his final flight as an F-16 pilot. He retired from military flying this weekend, and we were so honored to see his last flight. I have never been more proud of my big brother. He has flown for our country for 26 years, and continues to serve proudly in the 'Green Mountain Boys' – the Vermont Air National Guard. He is the pride of our family and one of this country's finest."

Her husband passed away in 1988

Nancy lost her husband Charles Guthrie, then 49, of a sudden heart attack, when Savannah was 16 years old, in 1988.

Savannah has spoken at length about the impact the loss of her father at an early age had on her, and her family's life as a whole. "Our whole family just hung onto each other for dear life because it was such a shock," she previously shared on TODAY. "We were just trying to figure out how to become a family of four, when we had always been a family of five."

Nancy worked hard to give her kids an education

Prior to Charles' passing, Nancy was a stay at home mom, but after being widowed she got a job at a small business newspaper, The Daily Territorial, before going to work in public relations for the University of Arizona.

The gig gave Savannah and her sister Annie free tuition to the school, though given a dorm was not included in the deal, they both lived at home with their mom. She left the job in 2007, though spent several years afterward serving on an advisory committee for the journalism school.

"We had a spoken or unspoken pact that on the weekends, even though we were college girls, one of us would always stay home on one of the weekend nights so that my mom wouldn’t be alone," Savannah once shared on TODAY, adding: "That was just something we did together as sisters."

"She set aside her own grief in many ways just to be there and make sure that we could all move forward together," she also said on a 2023 Mother's Day segment on TODAY.

Nancy was also a journalist

Nancy was born Nancy Long in Kentucky, and attended the University of Kentucky, where she worked as a college journalist, covering fraternity and sorority life as the society editor of the student newspaper, and penned a column called Social Whirl, per the New York Times.

Like Savannah, she is also a devout Baptist Christian; in addition to remaining in touch with her journalistic roots, Nancy also taught Bible study classes — she was reportedly first reported missing after failing to attend a livestream of Sunday church — and is an avid mahjong player.

She was last seen January 31

Nancy was reported missing on February 1. She has no cognitive impairments, however she does have difficulty walking on her own, which was among the first signs leading police to believe she had been abducted. Her family has also shared she needs daily medication to not be in pain, and failing to take it could prove fatal.

On February 24, Savannah's family announced they were offering a $1 million reward for anyone with information that could lead to Nancy's recovery.
