Martin Short's daughter Katherine has tragically died at the age of 42, HELLO! can confirm.
TMZ first reported the news, alleging that law enforcement sources shared that she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was found in her Hollywood Hills home on Monday February 23.
"It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short," a rep for Martin told HELLO!
"The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world."
Katherine was the adopted daughter of Only Murders in the Building star Martin and his wife Nancy Dolman, who passed away in 2010.
Katherine worked as a social worker in Los Angeles after receiving her bachelor's degree from New York University in psychology and gender sexuality studies, before she went on to earn her master's in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010.
She interned at the pro bono law firm Public Counsel as well as training with the West L.A. Veterans Administration, before she worked for UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital.
Comedian Martin is father to three adopted children: Katherine, and sons Oliver and Henry. Nancy sadly died of ovarian cancer on August 21, 2010.
Katherine, Oliver and Henry all chose to lead lives out of the spotlight, although Katherine did occasionally attend parties with her father. In May 2003, Martin and Nancy were joined by Katherine for the after-party of The Producers, and Katherine also joined her father at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in February 2011.
Oliver and Henry both attended Notre Dame University, with Oliver working behind-the-scenes in sports TV, and Oliver a veterinary assistant at the Malibu Coast Animal Hospital.
Martin fell for his beloved wife after meeting on a Toronto production of Godspell in 1972. In his memoir I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend, he said it was "love at first sight." Martin was dating and living with SNL cast member Gilda Radner at the time, but admitted that when he first saw his future wife, he thought she was "so beautiful."
Martin decided to ask her out on a tennis date after bumping into her at a restaurant the day after his breakup. "It was fast," Martin said of his courtship of Nancy during an appearance on Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson & Woody Harrelson podcast. "One day, I was single. That's crazy." The pair married in 1980.
In 2010. Nancy died of ovarian cancer in 2010 after 30 years of marriage to Martin.
