Chris Bosh is "lucky to be alive."

On Wednesday, February 25, the former professional basketball player took to Instagram and shared a scary health update, revealing he woke up covered in his own blood.

"It was crazy, it was fast, it was instant, there was no warning, I didn't have any time to prepare for it," he said, adding: "I was getting ready to go on a date with my wife, next thing you know I was on the ground."

Though he said he wouldn't "get into specifics," he noted: "You can kind of see I'm still recovering," pointing to the dark circles around his eyes.

"It was a scary thing and it came fast, and it made me have a different outlook on life, and how things go, what we do for ourselves and what we do for our family," he continued, maintaining: "Make sure you don't wait, that's the thing that I get from this, don't wait to take action, because it could come back, it could come quick, and I'm lucky to be alive."

Chris, who has been married to Adrienne Williams Bosh since 2011, was in the NBA from 2003 to 2017, during which he played for the Toronto Raptors and the Miami Heat. His NBA career was cut short in 2016 by a blood clotting condition that the NBA ruled to be a career-ending illness, and though he tried to resume his career for three years, he eventually confirmed his retirement in 2019.
