Kate Hudson brought an unexpected date to the 2026 Actor Awards as she was joined by her older brother, Oliver Hudson. However, despite their united front on the red carpet, her sibling was not her first choice to accompany her that evening as she revealed it was a "last-minute situation."
On the carpet, Kate shared that Oliver replaced her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, as her date for the occasion. "This is an impromptu," she told Entertainment Tonight, with Oliver adding that it was a "last-minute situation."
"Danny got, like, crazy sick," the actress added, "and I was like, 'Oliver, you need to be my date!'"
Oliver later revealed that for the occasion, he had to dust off and rewear the same tuxedo he first wore at 18. "It’s literally vintage Tom Ford, because I’ve just had it for that long," he said. "I’m not a stylish man." Kate explained that he initially purchased it for the premiere of his sitcom Rules of Engagement, which aired in 2007.
Meanwhile, Kate looked ethereal in a bridal-inspired custom Valentino gown. The off-white design featured a bandeau neckline with a cutout at the bodice and a figure-hugging silhouette. For added drama, a cape was secured at the shoulders, cascading outward behind her.
The simple gown was associated with bespoke Desert diamond jewelry created by L.A.-based fine jeweler Emily P. Wheeler. Kate's blonde locks were left down in soft waves tucked behind her ears while her makeup oozed soft glam, courtesy of a shimmery eye, a pinch of blush, and a glossy lip.
Kate was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role at the ceremony for her performance as Claire in Sung Sung Blue.
Song Sung Blue is based on the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, who performed as the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder in the 1980s. Kate stars as Claire Sardina alongside Hugh Jackman, who plays Mike Sardina. The film is directed by Craig Brewer, an American filmmaker best known for Footloose, Hustle & Flow, and Black Snake Moan.
Kate's bridal-inspired look nods to her engagement with her fiance, Danny. Kate and Danny Fujikawa announced their engagement via Instagram in 2021 and debuted her jaw-dropping $1million engagement ring at the Met Gala on the same day. The couple share one daughter, Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa, who they welcomed in October 2018.
The actress previously shared that she likes the romantic idea of "getting engaged and staying engaged."
"Well, I just don’t have the same kind of like, 'Oh my God, I'm gonna get married and I can't wait and I can't wait for the party,' it’s the opposite. I’m like, 'OK, I have to plan it and then it’s gonna cost so much money' and it’s just a lot," she shared.
