Michelle Pfeiffer's 'happy ever after' with David E. Kelley, has proven to be one of the most enduring love stories in Hollywood history.
But before she fell for the famed producer, Michelle had a lesser-known union to another familiar face from the 1980s.
Who was the man who stole her heart first time round, and what happened between the pair?
How they met
Before Michelle was a three-time Oscar nominee and a global superstar, she was an aspiring actress in Los Angeles. It was during one of Milton Katselas's acting classes that she met Peter Horton.
Michelle was just 22 years old when she married Peter, who was five years her senior, in 1981.
His career
Just as Michelle has had incredible success in the entertainment industry, so has Peter. He initially found fame as Gary Shepherd on the hit series Thirtysomething. Peter directed his then-wife in a 1985 ABC Afterschool Special called One Time Only and appeared alongside her in Amazon Women on the Moon.
From there he went on to have a decorated acting and directing career. Peter directed the pilot for Greys Anatomy as well as for Birdland, Dirty Sexy Money, The Philanthropist and Reconstruction.
As of 2010 he continues to be an executive producer and director of Grey's Anatomy.
What went wrong?
Both Michelle and Peter were breaking through in their careers during their marriage and the distance and time apart eventually paid its toll. In 1988, they amicably divorced.
Michelle later said: "I broke one of my own Ten Commandments never to date an actor, especially one you study with. Then I married one!"
A 'forgotten' marriage
Despite being married for seven years, Michelle confessed to Parade that the relationship isn't one she thinks about often. "I married Peter at a very young age. I’m not the same person I was then. I forget I was even married before," she told the outlet, before revealing her two children didn't even know about her first time down the aisle.
"I do forget," Michelle added. "Actually, I didn’t tell my kids for the longest time. They were old when I finally said, 'Oh, by the way, just FYI, I was married once before.' They were like, 'What?!' It had never occurred to me to tell them."
Michelle and David
The Grease 2 actress met her husband, David E. Kelley on a blind date in 1993. The couple had only been dating for two months when Michelle adopted her daughter, Claudia.
"So we had this child with us right away, and most people don't have that. But I really got to see [David] in a situation that certainly would separate the boys from the men. Obviously, he really rose to the occasion," she told Good Housekeeping in 2007.
Michelle and David married in November 1993 and welcomed their son, John Henry, in 1994.
