Lisa Kudrow was feeling the love on Thursday as she attended the Los Angeles premiere of HBO's The Comeback. Supported by her husband, advertising executive Michel Stern, and son, actor Julian Stern, the A-lister was flanked by family and friends. Pictured at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Lisa, 62, posed for photos with Michel, 67, and Julian, 27, as well as her co-stars and series co-creator, Michael Patrick King. A milestone moment for the actress, Lisa couldn't have looked happier as she celebrated season three of The Comeback, which is returning after a 12-year hiatus.
Reprising her role as Valerie Cherish, an actress fighting tooth and nail to keep her career alive, season three follows Valerie as she signs on to appear in the first-ever sitcom written by AI. "It's fun to be Valerie," Lisa told The Hollywood Reporter. "Valerie creates her own reality. Yeah, she's a little delusional, but that's one of the sources of comedy. It's so obvious to us that people want her to stop talking or that they don't want her there, but she can't help it."
Starring alongside his mother, Julian, who also works as an editor, has landed a small part in season three, though little is known about his role. The duo, who share a close relationship, have been on set together before, with Lisa bringing Julian to the set of Friends when he was little. In a hilarious interview with Conan O'Brien, the Phoebe Buffay star revealed that her son was especially attached to Jennifer Aniston. "He'd fly into her lap," Lisa recalled.
"Well, she's a love bug, and that made sense. And I was always glad for anyone that Julian felt love for and felt from. But then at home, she'd be on TV, and he'd go, 'Mommy!' I'm kind of analytical, so I'm like, 'Is this wishful thinking? Do they have some kind of higher soul connection that I don't have with him?' " Lisa joked, before adding that she was "happy for them both."
Lisa Kudrow's close bond with her son Julian Stern
Lisa is incredibly close with her son, who is an only child. "[He] made it clear from the moment he could speak that he didn't want a brother or sister … [and] it just worked out that way anyway, but to this day, he'll say, 'Thank you,' " Lisa told Page Six.
Sharing his mother's passion for the creative arts, Julian studied film and TV production at the University of Southern California. After graduating in 2021, Lisa became an empty nester, which she reflected on in a recent interview. "I think I'm handling it really well, like a mature adult, happy that our son is away… and independent. It's hard! I think I did a good job of injecting him with the right amount of fear. He's independent and good."
