Sam Champion has revealed his recent life saving ordeal after undergoing tests on his heart.
The Good Morning America host previously shared a photo of himself in hospital after undergoing a "nuclear stress test."
At the time, he said the medical team had "found some things," and that they needed to be taken care of.
Fans were concerned for Sam who was hooked up to machines but he insisted: "I went in to the cardiac catheterization laboratory….. and we took care of it."
Despite admitting he was expected to make a full recovery, Sam later shared a lengthy video on social media from his home in which he confessed: "I have no doubt that the test that we did saved my life, which is not an easy thing to say."
Heart health
After doctors analyzed Sam's heart function, he was told he needed two stents in arteries leading to his heart.
"I was lucky," he added, but said it can be easily missed and he had undergone tests in the past when his heart was presenting as healthy.
Stents are tiny tubes inserted into narrowed or weakened veins or arteries to improve blood flow and reduce clogging and are considered life saving.
Sam revealed he would be returning to GMA on March 25, where he would talk in depth with a doctor about the tests and his treatment in the hopes it will help others. "I want you to know the questions to ask your doctor," he explained in his video. He also thanked fans and loved ones for their concern and thanked "the amazing team at Mount Sinai."
His cancer battle
Sam has always been open about his health journeys. In October 2024, he stepped away from his role at GMA to treat basal cellcarcinoma after noticing a spot under his left eye.
He went under the knife for treatment and documented his journey to raise awareness of skin cancer.
"There have been so many advancements in sun protection, sunscreen and laser treatments for pre-cancerous areas, so I hope, one day, no one has to go through surgery to get rid of skin cancer," Sam said on the air.
"But right now, we have to keep our eye on our skin, our hands on our skin, be very vigilant and notice any unusual spots, and if those spots start to change, immediately get care."
He also shared a warning about sun care, saying he never goes outside now without sun protection, adding: "No matter how old you are… no matter what your skin tone, your skin type, your skin color, they're cutting skin cancer off everybody, so it's everybody's issue."
Sam previously dealt with the disease when he was diagnosied with skin cancer at the age of 26.
