Janai Norman transparently revealed her reasoning behind abruptly leaving GMA during an emotional video.

The network did not want to renew the TV star's contract, despite her being a weekend co-anchor for ABC since 2022.

The journalist took to social media over the weekend to inform her fans of the surprising news.

Janai shared an emotional video on her social media

She shared: "I hoped that we'd have more time and it's been hard on me that our time was cut short. I have loved my job. It has been a joy to connect with my co-workers and with viewers to help keep you informed and entertained and to create this community."

Janai continued: "So it really breaks my heart that I don't get to say goodbye. I'm so sorry that I don't get to say goodbye. It would have been fun."

Janai gets candid 

The doting mother-of-three shared: "But I have these three young kids and I have worked weekends their whole lives and so now, they get more of me and that is worth everything."

The TV star added: "So, stay tuned. I'm sorry. I feel you and thank you to every single one of you who has reached out with such kind and validating words. I have needed it and I appreciate it."

She captioned the video: "I've read every message. And am deeply grateful for the love. More to come when the time is right."

Fellow journalists flocked to the comments to show their support.

Deborah Roberts wrote: "Wishing you bigger and better journeys ahead." Abby Phillip added: "Proud of you and here for you. We know this is just the beginning."

Janai has been married since 2018

Robin Roberts commented: "Hope you're feeling the love from everyone responding. You are a true gem and thoroughly enjoyed working with you. I treasure our friendship."

Janai's struggles

Janai has previously shared insight into her personal struggles with her work-life balance.

She revealed: "There's a lot of self-imposed mom guilt. It feels like I'm missing out on things like oh my gosh, when I get back my daughter's going to be an inch taller and she's going to be saying five more words," New York Amsterdam News.

Family life

The reporter has been married to Eli Norman since 2018 and the family resides in New Jersey. Their firstborn son Blakes was born in 2017.

Their daughter, whose name has not been revealed, was born in 2020, and their second son Earthside was born in 2023.
