Phil Collins enjoys some quality time with his son, Matthew, this week as he pulled off the ultimate surprise. The musician's 21-year-old son took to Instagram on April 7 to share a sweet photograph with his father.
The 75-year-old wore a blue Ralph Lauren polo shirt with a pair of glasses as he sat beside his lookalike son, who donned a burnt orange sweater with a pair of dark pants. Matthew rocked a full beard just like his father, with the pair smiling towards the camera. In the caption, Matthew penned: "The best of surprises."
Matthew is the youngest of the iconic singer's five children and currently plays soccer for a professional club called Sportverein Austria Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria.
Phil Collins' children
The drummer shares children Joely and Simon Collins with his first wife, Andrea Bertorelli, whom he was married to from 1975 to 1979. Phil welcomed his daughter, Lily Collins ,with his second wife, actress Jill Tavelman, in 1989. The pair later divorced in 1994. He went on to welcome sons Nicholas and Matthew with his third wife, Orianne Cevey, to whom he was married from 2000 to 2006.
Matthew, who was born in 2005, is the most private out of Phil's children and has largely refrained from the spotlight. Meanwhile, Simon and Nic Collins, have followed in their father's musical footsteps and forged careers as drummers.
Phil's daughter, Lily, is an esteemed actress and shares a close relationship with her father. To mark his 75th birthday back in February, Lily took to Instagram to share a celebratory post.
"Yesterday Dad turned 75 and I feel so grateful to have celebrated together," Lily wrote. "For all you've accomplished, all the joy you've brought so many all over the world for all these years… all the lessons we've learned, all the memories we've shared, and all the new ones to come, thank you."
She continued: "I count myself so lucky to have hugged you, laughed with you, and reminisced with you on such a monumental day. Proud is an understatement. Love you to the moon and back again."
However, Lily has previously dismissed comments surrounding her assumed nepotism. "It was out of the question that people would think that I use a free pass thanks to my name," she told Vogue France.
"I'm proud of my dad, but I wanted to be me, not just his daughter. I love to sing. But as I wanted to make my own way, far from the paternal genius – I preferred to be an actress."
"My kids are amazingly well adjusted considering some of the things that they've been through," he said. "I'm very, very proud of all of them," the musician said in an interview with Zoe Ball for BBC Two's Eras – In Conversation.
