'80s icon Jami Gertz made a rare outing with her billionaire husband, Tony Ressler, for a glittering night at the opening gala for The David Geffen Galleries in April. The 60-year-old was glowing as she snapped a photo with her husband of 36 years outside the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, of which they are proud patrons.
Jami was dressed in a ribbed white gown under a white coat with floral detailing, and added gray socks and silver heels to complete the look. She accessorized with an eye-catching white bag and dangly earrings, and wore her gray-brown locks in a chic updo.
Tony looked dapper in a black tuxedo complete with a black bowtie. The couple have long supported the museum, with $50 million in donations to their name. The south wing of the building will be named the Ressler Family Wing in their honor, and Tony sits on the board of directors.
While Jami is now busy making savvy business moves with her husband, the mother of three was a household name in the '80s thanks to her starring roles in Crossroads, Quicksilver, Less Than Zero, The Lost Boys and Twister. She was discovered at 16 years old at a talent contest, and quickly found herself starring opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in Square Pegs and Brooke Shields in Endless Love.
She also counts actors like Robert Downey Jr., Andrew McCarthy, Tom Cruise, Kiefer Sutherland, Katherine Hepburn and Helen Hunt as her former co-stars. Everything changed when Jami met and fell in love with Tony in the mid-'80s, and they were married by 1989.
At the time, Tony was a banker and had not yet made his fortune in private equity. "Everyone thinks I married a rich guy," the actress told The Hollywood Reporter.
"But I made more money – way more money – than Tony when I met him. I paid for our first house. I paid for our first vacation. I married him because I fell in love with him." Tony is now worth $10.9 billion, per Forbes.
The pair, who share kids Oliver, Nicholas, Theo and Abigail, made smart money moves by investing in several sports teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team and the Atlanta Hawks basketball team.
Jami and Tony bought the Hawks in 2015 for a whopping $720 million and relocated to Atlanta to be more involved in the day-to-day operations in 2017. The star took a step back from acting after the move, as she told The Hollywood Reporter.
"It just seemed like a natural moment for me to take a break from acting," she told the publication. "It's hard to even say it out loud because I love what I do. It's given me so many beautiful things in my life, taught me so many things about myself and the world around me."
She made a brief return to Hollywood in 2022 with a role in the rom-com I Want You Back. Jami also dipped her toes into the offscreen world of film and TV, and launched the company Lime Orchard Productions in 2007. Unfortunately, the company only found success with one film, 2011's A Better Life, before it shut down.
